Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Running Races in New York June 14

Hi folks. I am an avid runner and I have just booked flights to New York From 19th June to 29th June 2014.

I would love to compete in a race over there during my stay. Any distance from 5k to Half Marathon. And I would also love if there was a finishers t-shirt and/or medal to have as a souvenir.

I don't know where I'm staying yet, but probably with a friend in the Bronx!

Is anyone familiar with a race that would suit?

    check out http://www.nyrr.org and https://nycruns.com/races/

The big one is the Queens 10k, but it is a bit a trip out to Flushing Park unless you are in Queens ( I would leave about 4am to get there last time - it was a HM back then so it is a few years ).

There are two races in Central Park on the 28th/29th. Both are 5 miles - but different courses IIRC. The 28th is the gay pride 5 miler. I think this is a club competition race so fills quickly. With gay marriage now legal proposals at the finish line are common !
On the 29th is the Achilles run. This is a really inspiration run, it caters to runners with disabilities, so you see people pushing their wheel chairs backwards up the hills of Central Park, kids on prosthetics - it really is incredibly uplifting.

Finally beware - it can be pretty warm even though all there races start early.

You cannot leave NY as a runner without running Central Park, the loop and reservoir !

I ran that 10k in Queens last year and can confirm heat was a major issue. It went off at 7am but temps were already 24/25 and humid. Tough going but a good, well organised event.

Thanks so much! These sound great! I'd love a race in central Park and the 10k in Queens sounds great as well! Maybe i'll do both!
