Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

VW Polo - Leaking Rear Passenger Door - New Membrane Required - Part Number?

    Hi

My wife's 08 VW Polo has developed a leak in the rear passenger door. My mechanic has identified it to be the door membrane leaking so I rang VW in Waterford and asked for a door membrane.

From googling this problem I see that it's a common fault in VWs (but to be fair what isn't a common fault in them) but the genius in VW Waterford said he had never heard of such a part or had never sold anything like it before.

Does anyone know what the official name for the part is if it's not called a membrane? Or would any very kind person be able to tell me the part number for it (08 Polo 1.2 petrol 5 door)

    Thanks in advance.

Is it the door seal you're talking about? The rubber lining that goes around the door?

Can't help you with the part number but I had a similar problem with a BMW.
Fixed it myself by whipping off the door card and glueing the membrane back to the door.

No it's not the rubber seal. It's behind the physical door card. I can only describe what it is on my 406 coupe and it's like a thin layer of grey foam that is glued to the door. It basically separates the door card from the raw steel of the door.

Sorry not sure if my explanation is up to scratch but they are commonly known as door membranes

There used to be an online version of the EKTA parts catalogue. Damned if I can find it now, though.
