Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Meteor in Galway must have expanded their capacity greatly. 2 weeks ago I have only had 0.5Mbit DL and this morning it was almost 20Mbit DL on 3G. Never seen anything close to that before.

I am thinking its related to their 4G offer and speeds probably go down again but that's some impressive result.

Sexy speeds! I did however clock a speed of 0.7mb download on lte/4g earlier though

And thanks for the IP address in the second one, it helps confirm my list of 3 addresses that are NATed and those that aren't.

And thanks for the IP address in the second one, it helps confirm my list of 3 addresses that are NATed and those that aren't.

    No problem :)

    What is your list like?

The 178.XXX.XXX.XXX series of ip addresses are less decent private ip addresses that part of a collection that share an external ip address as far as I remember thus usually giving moderate nat settings if you require nat for gaming - its hard to get ip addresses in the 92.XXX.XXX.XXX but they are proper public set of ip addresses which usually give good open nat for gaming. They seem to have a second set of public ip addresses: 31.XXX.XXX.XXX which they acquired over the last two years

Both sets from my experience have NAT capabilities but obviously a public ip rather than sharing an ip address is the best way to go (but more costly to an ISP as far as I remember - correct me if I am wrong)

3internet APN gives you the chance of getting one or the other while 3ireland only gives you access to private ip addresses

(do correct me if I am wrong - its being a while since I did some digging into three and its NAT/IP setup

    My current list is this
Servers 83.136.47.0 - 83.136.47.127 includes DNS and SMTP servers
    Servers 92.251.255.0 - 92.251.255.127 includes NAT servers (.13 and .14 probably others - APN 3ireland.ie )
    APN 3internet
    31.200.128.0 - 31.200.191.255 ~16000
    92.251.128.0 - 92.251.159.255 ~ 7900
    92.251.160.0 - 92.251.191.255
    92.251.192.0 - 92.251.207.255 ~ 3800
    92.251.224.0 - 92.251.239.255 ~ 3900
    83.136.40.0 - 83.136.41.255 ~ 500 <? roaming only whatever that means?
    178.167.128.0 - 178.167.159.255 ~ 7900
    178.167.160.0 - 178.167.191.255 ~ 7900
    178.167.192.0- 178.167.223.255 ~ 7900
    178.167.224.0 - 178.167.239.255
    178.167.248.0 - 178.167.251.255
    178.167.254.0 - 178.167.254.255 ~ 250 < reported in use with NAT (shared IP)
    178.167.255.0 - 178.167.255.127 ~ 125 < reported in use with NAT (shared IP)

Most ranges I've had at some time and a few I've looked up from what others have reported. Not had any of the ones that use when I've been using the 3internet APN. I use a little script that records my IP address in a txt file so I can check back. At one time I was looking to see if any of the IP addresses were better than others.

The max i got on 4G with my 3 phone was around 18 Mb/s down and 17 Mb/s up with Meteor i barely had 2 bars of 4G in the area i was in and got around 15Mb/s down and 5 up .. in the same area on 3G with Meteor i got 20Mb/s .. i've yet to see 4G get the speeds that i have seen on here.

I'll be in Dublin airport next saturday omw to Spain so we will see how it goes around that area i guess.

3G is great but I find it very unreliable the majority of the time.

Great speeds one minute and quite poor the next. Even some speed tests vary widely only minutes apart!

I find Vodafone to be the most consistent for me anyway.

The data limits on the 4g service are pretty bad with 3 offering the best data cap with arguably the worst connection

It's like having your car upgraded to a Ferrari and only being able to drive it at 20 kmph to save fuel

    Very annoying!

Haha i was suprised to see 4G been rolled out in my area i wasnt expecting it til next year ! The test i took was when it was still been rolled out i took another now today that its fully up and running and the upload is much higher ! :)

Thats true the test was my iPhone 5C tethered to my laptop with only a 500mb mobile broadband add on. I got a 4G modem on Bill Pay today and Vodafone messed it up and didnt give me a proper SIM card with it.

The limit is 20GB on that as you said i have DSL at home so i dont mind and Vodafone / eircom are working on fibre in my area this past month :)

What Vodafone dont tell you is that on pre pay RED plan that gives you 4G after you use your 1GB of data your data drops to 3G . :( I'm not happy with that at all 1GB On 4G Is pretty crappy to be honest.

Still they havnt gotten my bill pay 4G modem working yet .. So I'm going to visit the store again tomorrow and see whats the story been talking to over 7 people at Vodafone now and none of them seem to have a clue and they say Three customer service are bad !

I'm moving back to 3 myself for my phone tomorrow and wait it out til i get 4G with them in my area Vodafones limits for data on my phone isnt good enough for me .

Ill post 4G tests from my modem tomorrow if Vodafone sort it out .

Just switched from three myself to Vodafone - was sick of the customer service and poor service so beware mate - they can be worst in terms of customer support and service. Im on bill pay myself though and have a 5 gig addon on top of my 8gb data included with my business plan - not a great amount of data on 4g either

The other networks need to up the data even if it's just the 4g BB plans

Everyone is going at 3 since their data allowance is actually reasonable to the pathetic data limits the other lads with actual customer service offer

Good customer service with crap data limits

    or

Bad customer service with decent data limits!

If you can make 3 work for you it's not so bad but it's a bloody hard job to get it consistent and reliable!

Vodafone customer support were pretty poor the people I have talked to anyway but they seemed to have sorted out the problem with my 4G modem eventually . Only reason I'm back to 3 is for the unlimited data on 3pay only for that wouldn't go near em been with em for years and the data speeds are quite slow but I have noticed since I switched back the data speeds have been 5Mb/s + usually I only got between 0-3 at best during the day.

Vodafones network Is really good cant say anything bad about them but the data limits kill me 1GB isn't enough at all I ended up putting over 50€ into my phone when I was with Vodafone because of data limits, they did have 3G dual carrier In my area tho and I used to get between 12-20Mb/s on 3G which was impressive.

What kind of speeds do you get on o2 ? With this new better network thing 3 are talking about since they now own o2 you might have a chance of getting 4G :D

    3655720476.png

Little slower than normal I was getting over 48 Mb/s earlier but I was close to the mast at the time still much better than 3G. The upload is faster than my DSL download which maxes out at around 14.5 Mb/s

True 3 are terrible the data speeds are horrible as a result of the unlimited data theres no way to stop people using the all you can eat data on a laptop or other devices some people even use it instead of paying for 3broadband or DSL .

i have to get away from 3 switched back to them from Vodafone few weeks ago regret it so badly now i remember why i left them 0.20mb/s download speeds most the time , headed back to Vodafone even tho the data limit is crappy i dont use mobile internet much im always on wifi i also have one of the Vodafone 4G wifi modems with 20GB on that .

Going back to Vodafone for better coverage too and for 4G on my phone missing that alot ! their 3G is miles faster than 3 some nights on 3G i can hit over 20Mb/s which is faster than my DSL sometimes the 4G hits 50Mb/s altough its capped on the phone itself at 1GB i mostly only use my phone for iMessage to my girlfriend in the USA so it's not a big deal on 3 it's impossible to even send one sometimes and when you drop to E or GPRS nothing works at all least with Vodafone it does.

Sim card ordered should be back with them by wednesday hopefully:p

Vodafone 4G in Adare area (between Adare and Patrickswell), 2AM.

Device on desk, Adare side of house, 4 bars

    3732284355.png

Device at window, Patrickswell side of house, 1 bar

    3732288605.png

Device taped to window, Adare side, 5 bars

    3732293861.png

Same location (taped to window), rerun after 10 min

    3732300239.png

Apparently upload is very strongly affected by device position, while download is affected by position to a lesser degree but something else affects it, probably contention. I decided to keep Vodafone and wil probably order an antenna from dx.com (it's cheaper that way ant not urgent); when I do have an antenna I'll report on the speed I get with and without it. I'll also report on day/eveningtime speed tomorrow at the taped location, though I really need t stop testing soon as I have eaten over 200 Mb for these four runs!

For comparison only: DSL connection in the same house.

    3732318527.png

I'm not entirely sure now why mobile is "midband" and DSL is "broadband". Of course the DSL stays, because it does not have a data cap; I plan to use the fast Vodafone connection for work, while freeing up DSL for family entertainment.

Trying out tesco mobile on a HSPA+ dongle

    3734703807.png

    Not the worst I guess

15GB for 15 quid ain't terrible either for PAYG.

Really want access to a Meteor and Three 4g sim and dongle but no one I know has em!... Three get's the worst reception here, followed by Tesco/o2 and the winner is Meteor... Shame the meteor huawei b593s-22's are not in stock, I'd probably get one if the signal was good

I get 2 bars of 3g indoors with Three, 3/4 bars of HSPA+ with a Meteor/Tesco dongle... All that gives me slight hope for 4g access

    EDIT:

Here is the speed of Tesco BB from a b260a (only 3g) router with 1 bar of signal...

    3734737342.png

Also, the ping command never works in the windows cmd line... weird...
