Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

hey, so alot of wise old students of the ucc forum have been mentioning a boards meetup at the beginning of the year for anyone involved on boards incl. 1st years. sounds like a good idea,
but ive been getting mixed reports that people dont show up or it doesnt go ahead.

so to clear things up and to generate interest
who here would be interested in a meetup?

ideas and suggestions welcome too :pac:

What is the purpose of the meeting? Orientation of the campus? Or social gathering?

im thinking the 21st of september? before the start of freshers week and jsut at the end of orientation. it would be a good day where people wont be busy yet still will just be adjusting to ucc. also the other years will be arriving in around that time and will be able to join us

could people give us a shout back on the thread? just simple yay or nay to confirm. i might need to start pm'ing people to organise this properly...because this could get confusing

    Aye, count me in.

Maybe have a few options for what we should do, and if any Cork peeps wanna recommend places and things to do?

I'm always up for a few and meeting good people! I know nobody yet and am here in Cork already since yesterday, bored off my hole, desperate for drinking companions. Keep me in the loop

Ps. to above, I'm 29 so could be considered mature on paper

Try the Redcove bar in Mahon, great spot, very friendly.

Usually best to meet on campus as it's central to everyone's needs. That's what we found best for us.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,184 ✭✭✭shane9689

    college bar then?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 179 ✭✭Neodymium

The health science courses orientation day is on the 21 sept. so the meetup could conflict with some boardies class party.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,753 ✭✭✭CZ 453

I think you might find that whatever night you choose in September it won't suit some.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,500 ✭✭✭ReacherCreature

Yup, September is a bit of a minefield as people are settling in.

Also, I'd recommend coffee/tay/water meetups. Drink ones don't tend to go down that well for some reason. Then again, things might work different for ye lot!

Id say either decide on a date pre 24th and so be it or just pick sonething around the beginning of October. No harm sure.

Well it wouldn't conflict with a class party because they're on at night. A meetup like this would have to happen during the day, it's easier and less awkward I think!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,184 ✭✭✭shane9689

    look guys dont panic

we can have it after orientation but BEFORE the class party...class party isnt untill 7.30 or something, so any time before that. I realise it wont suite everyone, but someone has to miss out, its hard to fit everyone in as there is alot of people

so here is my proposal so far
21st in the college bar (new college bar has been chosen opposed to old bar) at lets say 5.30?
    should suite most people
if anyone can suggest another location or tell me if the college bar is even open at that time, i will gladly look into it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,116 ✭✭✭Salty

There are 2 college bars :pac:

Yup two bars. New or Old. New Bar's in the Student Center and Old Bar is above the shop, near the Boole and Main Restaurant.

They're both good tbh, although the New Bar would probably be easier for new students since it's in the student centre!

Disgusted I can't make it - I'm based in the UK atm :(

I'll be home the 20/21 Oct weekend, graduating on the 22nd - to be fair, when I organised them they went decently! :D Pity I won't get to meet ye all, but could be home for the midterm the following week in October, so if an evening one is organised for then I'd be up for it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,863 ✭✭✭Papa_Lazarou

to be fair, when I organised them they went decently! :D
