I have to say i enjoyed this, good acting, well made and reasonably gripping, setting the scene was a little bit co-incidental, the car dealer hires an ex boxer and of course the ex boxer has gambling debts so has to get involved in the tiger raid, also what back street small town ireland casino owner is turning €850,000 every 2 days????? if they are i'm in the wrong game.....all that aside it was a good piece of home made drama, well done.

Only watched it for the Wexford connection, some of the accents were spot on.
Otherwise it looked like every RTE drama ever made.

Watchable enough I suppose without being too unkind to it.

I believe its part of broadcasting legislation in Ireland that Sean McGinley must appear in every single RTE drama without question

The banker looks like the most interesting character and the star of the show acting wise. The young boxer ain't bad either.

i thought the main character was good....pity there isnt a bit of skirt to look at though

He worked with Billy Roche before in Trojan Eddie.

It was very different to Billy's previous work though there was some of Billy's themes like the scene in the hotel "what was that song" Billy always has a song in his work. The Boxing another part of Billy's theme as his grandfather was the boxer Jem Roche.

Looks set to be a good series. I'd imagine the Casino is a cover for other criminal business dealings which seems obvious going on those who run it. Looks a worthy successor to other good Irish drama like Love/Hate.

The failed business owner and the boxer will most likely get deeper and deeper into the criminal world of those they turned to akin to Andrew the dentist did in Love/Hate. But will there be a happy ending for them or not remains to be seen.

The bankers must be a bit clueless if they arent concerned about a backstreet wexford casino wonder dropping in 850k..... i wonder what will happen now with the boxer as the kid knows it was him, maybe she wont say anything to the cops, it also seems the casino owner dumped the body in the river and the car dealers daughter saw it...

I watched the first episode on the RTE player today - not bad and nice to see good drama can be made outside Dublin. That said, when you switch on the news there's a deluge of real incidents that make the drama seem quite tame. :(

The body being dumped is most certainly due to a power shift in the Casino and it will be interesting to see who he was. It will all link back into the power struggle that will develop between all the characters as the fallout from the tiger kidnapping develops.

With regard to the bankers: they will take money from anyone!!!!

Not surprised the car dealer is bankrupt if he's selling Ferrari's in Wexford.

Yeah and filmed we have the Library as a bank, Maudlintown and the train tracks leading to what is know as The back of The Star, a couple of takeways such as Uncle Sams, a few street shots.

One of the night scenes had Bride street I'm nearly sure.

Have vague recollection saw them filming up around hospital last year. Could be imagining it though.

I watched the 2nd episode tonight on the RTE player and it still held my interest. I did think that there were a few goofs though - the scene where the burnt out van is still blazing furiously while nobody shows any interest in extinguishing the fire as they stand around it. Another poster made reference to nobody smiling, but sadly this is not true as two young gardai can hardly hide their smiles (possibly their first time on camera?) as they return along the railway line during the search for Danny. Anyway, I'll watch the two remaining episodes.

watched the 3rd episode last night, found it disappointing, nothing happened of significance to the story, i think in reality this would have been best as a two part drama, i'm hoping though that it will surprise us all by having the weird bank manager as the real owner behind the casino and that he purposely left the 850k in the outer vault for some reason....

Was he behind the tiger kidnapping?

i'm thinking the weird auld fella from amber and his nordie side kick went to the bank manager to tell him what frank was planning and he went along with it so he could get half the cash, he seems very relaxed about the whole thing, plus he gives out about the bank and last night the weird auld fella said he grew up with the bank manager...

I can see the firestarter going out in a blaze of his own making, the two hitmen dieing violently and the banker and the car dealer being fingered somehow by Danny who goes scot free as there is no evidence against him.

yes i think snowey the firestarter who seems to have no purpose but hang around at fires and occassionally in the bankers house, will try and petrol bomb franks house and will end up burning himself, i'm not sure what will happen with frank but i think the banker is secretly behind it all and will kill the weirdo auld fella and the nordie and keep the money for himself and frank will end up going off with his missus and her daughter and franks daughter

Definitely this bank manager is somehow involved. Danny will come out of it the hero and Frank more than likely will come out of it too. The 2 hired criminals will die in a fight or shootout as will Snowy. Danny will be all out for revenge and discover Snowy is connected somehow to everything too. Most likely, Snowy will make a move to attack Frank's daughter/Danny's girlfriend and Danny will come to her rescue and kill Snowy in self defence.

yes i think frank and danny will come out of it ok, the bank manager has to be involved somehow as he was too cool and calm through it all, fiddling with his stamps before his wife and kid are back to safety

Okay I know the building where the boy and the girl (sorry I am terrible with names) saw the two guys dump the body.
I am just wondering does anyone know where the spot is, where the wife and daughter were brought to?

The final episode was quiet good in fairness.
Can't see them making a series from it though.

I was right, the banker was behind it all....it was a good series i thought, bit predictable but daycent as they would say in wexford, it was left pretty open so i'd say they will make a few more episodes, the cops dont really have anything on frank, the voice mail could have been about anything and the testimony from the scumbag nordie wouldnt stand up in court so i think frank will get off, jenny no doubt will shop the banker in to help cortina and her auld lad frank

I watched the final (?) episode tonight and it was definitely the weakest of the four - a real dog's breakfast. I wonder will it run to a second series as there are a lot of loose ends.

I thought it was quite good overall. It was nowhere near as good as Love/Hate but it was decent. Unlike Love/Hate, Clean Break did not have the guts to go to the same levels of depicting gangland violence and it seemed to shy away from the same levels of violence. That said, it was a good story, there was some good violence and ... it was certainly much better than that stupid George Lee rubbish on instead tonight. What a downer! Thinking back on TV last October bank holiday, we had Pauley pushed to his death and the attempted hit on Patrick Ward in Love/Hate.
