Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I keep hearing more and more people referring to a year as 'Twenty....' as opposed to 'Two Thousand and .....' which is what I still use.
So in this poll I ask you, What year is it tomorrow?

What will you call the new year? 38 votes

    Two Thousand And Fifteen
    0%
    Twenty Fifteen
    100%

    Wheres the poll?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

I didn't say 'one thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine' so I won't say 'two thousand and fifteen'.

Did you go around saying nineteen thousand and ninety eight?

If you did, your a gowl, now you're trying to justify your gowliness

    well exactly

however....the usage of "nineteen ninety nine" comes from a phrase like "17 hundred and 42" or whatever which was the convention for a long time

I don't think "20 hundred" would work so well!!

Well I certainly don't remember "Twenty Hundred", "Twenty oh One" "Twenty oh Two" being in popular use.

Tell that to The finance minister

Go and stand in the stupid corner with Noonan.

Or alternatively, you could apply to be our next finance minister.

Two thousand and fifteen sounds more impressive, an achievement if you will in comparison to the peasant terminology.

    Twenty Fifteen
    Two thousand and fifteen.

Either is good though, I don't consider either wrong. I don't care if it was nineteen-oh-one or nineteen-ten. :) This is now, things change, a century is a long ol' time.

So either is correct to me, I just seem to say the first poll option.

    2 words or 4 words?
Anybody who still uses long version probably doesn't have to say it very often. The hundreds or so times a day my job makes me say it, I'm goin for the half the time and effort option.

Or occasionally the elusive 3 word option: two thousand twelve.

Anything as long as it's not two fifteen - Michael Noonan please note!

Noonan still thinks that we are living in the year 214.

Same - I'm constantly saying 2014 or 2015 in work, definitely not gonna recite the long version every time. Actually now that I think about it, most of the time I just say "fourteen" or "fifteen" - in the context of my job (accounts), whoever I'm talking to will know what I'm talking about anyways.

Its Twenty Fifteen and has been since Twenty Ten, anyone who says it the other way is a dinosaur

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,793 ✭✭✭FunLover18

They're both correct just one is longer. Those saying Two Fifteen however can fúck rightly off, I don't care if it's ironic. There's a zero in there you numpties, we're not living in 215.

If your name is Micheal Noonan then it probably is lol. He seems to live a thosand years behind the rest of us. Its not that hard really to say twenty fifteen now is it. Maybe he just does not like using twenty for some reason lol.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

People saying two thousand and ... is one of my pet hates.Everyone over age 14 will say they were born in Ninteen whenever. We say the famine began in Eighteen forty five.We say the Ulster Plantation was Sixteen ninety. We say that Colombus sailed the ocean blue in Forteen ninety two.We say the battle of Hastings was in Ten sixty six.

In 2001,people should have been encouraged to say Twenty oh one.I only ever heard it being said once on telly during the first ten years of this century.

I also see that on UTV Ireland station they keep saying two thousand and fifteen in their previews. RRRRR.
