Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Right folks,

    What's the story with the iMac? I need to buy a new pc pretty soon & am considering purchasing the 20-inch iMac to complement the aul i-pod.

    Can you burn dvd's on the iMac & are they as good/better than a new Windows based Dell pc with Media edition XP?

    Im in the same boat as yourself and so far everything Ive read looks great. Im looking forward to trying to install Windows.

    Can anyone out there who uses a Mac tell me how they handle torrent downloads etc and how difficult it is to "aquire" software for the Mac?

    Also can anyone tell me what its like for Windows emulation within Mac OS-X. I have one or two specialist apps that I would like to keep rather than buying mac versions if I cant aquire them. Also one app doesnt have a Mac version.

    I'm like you, liking the Mac but loathe to take the final plunge with something other than a Win machine. Tip one: go for the mac, feel the fear and do it anyway. Still using a Dell laptop here but am purchasing an iMac Duo Care later this year.

    Yes you can burn DVDs as long as you buy the one with SuperDrive, i.e. both available. Forget Windows Media Centre Edition. It's like Windows ME with some knobs on. Mac is one to go with for multimedia.

    iMacs come with a Dual Layer DVD burner now, so burning DVDs is no problem, comparing them with a similar Dell pc is a bit difficult, you will always pay a premium (not much mind) for a Mac over a Dell, but *in my opinion* it's worth it considering the extras, such as the built in camera, mic, the fact that you literally have to put your ear to it to hear any noise from fans, hard disk and dvd drive and of course MacOSX.

    I honestly don't think any of you will regret buying a Mac if you take the plunge, especially with boot camp available.

    My sister has an iMac, and I can certainly vouch for its quality.

    There are many BitTorrent clients for Mac, including the official client, Tomato Torrent, Azureus, Transmission, TorrentStation and so on. But please DO NOT ask about pirating software here. Do you want to get yourself banned?

    By the way, you'll find there is a lot of top quality shareware for the Mac. For example, I just purchased a program called Transmit (from Panic.com), the best FTP client for ANY platform IMHO.

    You are kidding right? MCE is XP pro with some features stripped out and an extra application called media centre added.

    OS X and MCE cant really be compared from a media standpoint. Mainly due to the integrated PVR function of MCE. OS X does not offer this. Of course one can use elgato, but there is no integration with front row.

    Multimedia is a pretty broad term. If you are going for productivity and creation, id say try the Mac as it will go very well for you.

    For all all-round entertainment system MCE has the upper hand, for now.
