Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Avensis petrol filler cap won't open. Ideas?

The filler cap on my parents 1.6 petrol Avensis won't open. There still seems to be some resistance when the release lever is lifted but the filler cap won't open.

Any ideas as to how I would get at it?

It's the 2000 model too if that makes any odds.

There might be an emergency pull in the boot on same side as fuel tank normally has a yellow tag on it to pull.

I think the sister had the same problem on a 99 one of those. If I remember, I think I just levered it gently out at the flap and moved it over and back a few times.I think its just the hinge sticking.

I saw a lad I know with the same problem, as jimmyw mentioned it's more than likely the hinge not being strong enough to release the cap when the lever is pulled. Get a small screwdriver and lever it in (cover it in cloth to protect paintwork), with someone pulling the lever inside the car and someone with a vague mechanical aptitude on the screwdriver it should open :)

Once open there is a metal clip thing near the hinge, bend that a bit more to make it under pressure when the flap is closed :) Should be no bother than for another few years ;)
