Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Crankshaft Position Sensor - DW10ATED (00 Citroen Xantia 2.0 Hdi 110)

    Well folks,

I've a small problem, my Xantia is stranded in the sticks and is cranking and not firing. A connection to an OBD reader spat out the two following codes - P0340 and P0230.

The first is a malfunction of the crankshaft position sensor and the second is what I think is caused by the first, low pressure in the fuel pump.

Now, the car is stuck in the middle of Leitrim where and it is a long tow home (more than 100 miles :() and I'm kind of hoping I can fix this on the spot when I go back with a new sensor. Anyone done this on the PSA HDi before? Presumably it's down by the flywheel bellhousing? Any fancy tools needed?

    Cheers all :D

    Hi BX 19,
    Just checked on a-data and
P0340 Camshaft position sensor a bank 1 Circuit malfunction
    P0230 Fuel Pump Relay-Circuit malfunction

The fuel pump relay is in beside the engine ecu (large brown relay)
    e.g. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-0-Hdi-Expert-Scudo-Dispatch-Fuel-Relay-406-C5-Xsara-/181048102202?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2a274ecd3a

Can you hear the fuel pump (intank) running when you turn on the ignition..?
This relay supplies the camshaft sensor so maybe thats what its flagging the
    p0340 fault.
Ideally you would need to look at the rpms on live data when turning over the engine.
Maybe check fuse 11 (5amp) in the engine bay fusebox as it also feeds the camshaft sensor.
    Best of luck.

Yep you can clearly hear the fuel pump when the ignition is turned on, nothing unusual. I wont be back at the car until friday at the earliest and I'll check fuse 11 also.

When the car was running yesterday (with intermittent startup issues) it was a tad lumpy at idle but now it just cranks but doesn't start at all.

You really need to get it hooked up to a dealer level diagnostics to view
the rpm signal, rail pressure etc...the engine ecu needs around 150bar before it allows the engine to start.
How long since the diesel filter was replaced..?

Let us know how you get on.

Yea, I know, but the problem is it's stuck on the side of the road in Leitrim and nowhere near my mechanic. At the minute I need something that will get me home as it's a long distance to tow it.

I'm going to chance replacing the crankshaft sensor and hope it works and it can go back to the specialist and get it fully fixed.

I replaced the fuel filter 30,000 miles back when I used to use the car regularly but I gave it to my Dad and I'm not awfully sure what he did with it. He did service it twice since but I'm not sure if he replaced the filter.

if your unsure about the condition of the fuel filter and it was running alittle lumpy beforehand then the filter is the first thing to replace.

You may be able to get a local mechanic in Leitrim (with portable diagnostics) to check what i mentioned above...maybe cheaper than towing back to your base....What part of leitrim is it stranded in..?
