Must say I'm absolutely loving this series! :)

I'm too young to have seen the original, but my mother always talks about it so I decided I'd pick this up! The storyline is definitely one of the most solid out of the summer line-up of TV shows in America. Love all the back-stabbing and conniving that's going on.

JR is definitely my favourite character (for the moment anyway.. :D)

There has been many contenders over the years but I don't think there will ever be a character that people have loved to hate, as much as they did previously, for JR.

So far in the new series, he's mild.
In the old series, boy, he was ten times as deadly! LOL :pac:

Give him a break - sure he was catatonic only a few weeks ago :p

Besides, setting John Ross up for a big fall with Marta is going to be nasty I think!

I just think his eyebrows are gas! Half of them aren't even attached to his face, it just adds to the evil effect :D

    Haha.

I loved the original series and it looks like they have hit the nail on the head here and given fans what they want. It is great to see some of the original cast back in there. Bobby seems to be the focus here more so than JR and plays the role quite well. Patrick Duffy is a good actor.

I look forward to the plot twists and cliff hangers especially the end of season cliff hangers the original series was so famous for.

    Any Dallas fans out there?

Another great episode though I'm a little concerned about that helicopter ride :(

it has got better including and since episode 3. very pleased with it in fact.

the ex husband of anne's in episode 4 was also in the original series. he was jr's bully in the mental institution

She kind of reminded me of Helena Bonham-Carter in Tim Burton's Planet Of the Apes in the latest episode!

I looked her up and realised she's 70+, my god, you wouldn't believe it!

Last three episodes up to number 8 haven't been up to much, mainly due to almost total absence of JR...

Yeah, unless they really get Christopher and John Ross firmly established, the series could die a death if anything happens Larry Hagman in the meantime. He's 80+ too so you'd have to think he might like to take it easier after a while rather than have constant involvement with a show and the demands that places on actors. Maybe that's the point of JR's soujourne away at the moment. Full involvement for half the season and cameos for the rest?

Yea, I was thinking that. But apart from his absence they haven't been the same standard although still very watchable.

Larry Hagman is not a well man so he would be limited appearance wise.

I was a fan of the original (who wasnt in the bleak Irish 80s) but isnt Larry Hagman about 80? I recall seeing re -runs a few years back and didnt think the series was as good as recollected. I suppose TV has moved on. When you look at the re-runs you realise it was quite corny. I think even Larry H admitted to Pat Kenny that the dialogue was full of what Eastern seaboard Americans think Southerners talk like.

    I wouldn't have high hopes for a re-boot.

Well I believe it has been commissioned for a second season that isn't doing too bad.

So who do you think will be the first character to be killed off? We are almost at the final episode of season 1. So expect a typical Dallas season finale cliff hanger!

Of the new characters, I am not liking Elena. I don't think the actress is great to be honest so if any character is to meet a sudden end I think it may be her.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,536 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Given Larry's age, I wouldn't be surprised with a "Who shot JR" redux.

Didn't realise that it was nearing the end:( Ten shows is a very short run, was hoping it would be 22. Its as corny as hell but I am loving it:o Its so bad its good. Pure escapism. So many cliffhangers in the lastest episode:eek: I am not liking Elena or Rebecca so wouldn't miss either.

That was some episode! (just caught up now)

I have to say I've loved this so it's great to hear its been green-lit for a second season. Agree that without much JR in the last few episodes it's been missing something but its still very watchable. I like how they've stuck with the premise from the original show - that no matter what else has happened between them, when the chips are down the Ewings pull together (John Ross / Bobby).

It really wouldn't work without the senior (no pun intended) cast though I think.. it'd be just another bland remake of the style we've seen lots of in recent years, so fingers crossed they'll all be in it for a while yet (wouldn't surprise me if 2 finales were written, one if they weren't renewed and the one we'll get to see next week)

TV3 9am this evening . I will keep an open mind but Dallas was a template for so many other shows (Falcon Crest Etc) that I hardly think this will rock TV-its a concept done to death but for pure nostalgia will be good to see Bobby and JR. Was curious that they dont use the character of Bobby's natural son with Jenna Wade? The one Ray Krebbs adopted? Of course the fact that Ray once dated Lucy (incest?!) is airbrushed away but sure Bobby and the Shower etc

Someone compared Michael Noonan coming back into Finance to Pam and Booby shower scene-great one because both date from the same era! The shock of it-thinking baldy was gone and Presto he is back talking about bullions like he was never gone!

TNT will premiere Season 2 of Dallas in January 2013.

  • Registered Users Posts: 203 ✭✭door

The cliffhanger was sort of poor. If you see "Dallas: JR Returns" the 1996 reunion movie you will see that Christopher and Rebecca began dating then. So it really doesn't make much sense.

the makers said its a continuation of the original series there not counting the tv movies

The TV Movies are not canon. Rebecca and Christopher are not cousins by blood. Christopher is Sue Ellens sisters Kristin and J. R's son and was adopted by Bobby and Pamela.

Actually... he's not even JR's. As far as I remember, Kristen's brother tried to blackmail JR by claiming the baby was his (but wasn't) but when JR didn't give in, Bobby bought the baby (Christopher) and took him as his own.

(I watch too much telly :))
