Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Mysterious files which will not delete

    On my hard drive I have about ten folders with extremely long random number names 15 to 25 characters long. Each folder contains more folders each with 4 digit names.
    In each are files which are in chinese characters and some which refer to hotfix etc..

    I cannot delete this stuff.

    When I scan them with Norton it comes up with no viruses.

    I have used PCDOCPRO to scan the machine for problems and none found.

    Are these files important?
    Can they be got rid of?
    How do I find out if they are some sort of spyware or malware, the chinese characters do not look reassuring
    Are they best left alone?
    I have tried attrib on the command line and it says I do not have privileges to delete, how do I force the issue on this as I have admin privs on this machine.
    Also is there anyway to get rid of windows messenger. It keeps coming up on startup and I cannot remove/uninstall it as it keeps asking for a CD I do not have. Also problem with REAL messenger. I don't want it and cannot get rid of it.

    Most probably your windows update files!! Leave them be!!!!

    Windows Messenger.

    Msconfig and stop from startup.

    As it is a Service you can also call up services.msc and disable messenger there

    I unticked the microsoft messenger box under msconfig and it worked.
    Thanks a lot.
    I think I will ignore the mysterious files as they have been scanned manually by Norton and do not show any sign of viruses.
