DVD player

Hi

I need to get a cheap programme that will allow me play dvds. The reason I'm saying cheap is that I need it for 17 computers.

I was looking at a Power DVD Plug-In.... Would this do the job or do I need to get the full Power DVD Programme??? Also, if I bought either of these, would I just get a license for one computer or all 17...???

I thought that myself as well but someone else told me that we need a decoder of some sorts and that is why we need to get a programme such as Power DVD.

Even if we need to get Windows Media, will we be able to get a license for 17 computers and if so any idea of a rough cost??

VLC, Media Player Classic, even XBMC all play DVDs without having to pay for a separate decoder and all are free.

Edit: XBMC is probably a bit over the top if you just want to play DVDs. But I recommend VLC and Media Player Classic wholeheartedly.

Yeah, VLC or Media Player Classic will both do the job fine, and are free.

I'd go for VLC as it also plays just about anything else you can throw at it, so it's handy to have as your default video player. Media Player Classic can do this too, but only with the help of external codecs/filters. So VLC is the handier one-click solution.

But either of them will play DVDs straight away.

KMPlayer is another one; I recently ditched VLC if favour of this one. On my PC, some media files have issues keeping sync between audio and video with VLC, but no such problems with KMP. Loads up quicker and looks better as well.

KMPlayer is a good program ...you will not have problems with it...:D

Thanks for all the suggetions guys!

There is one of the 17 computers with Windows Media Player on it but when I try to play a dvd on it I get the following message:

"Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer"

I am reluctant to download new programs to run dvds if this problem will continue (I have to get an external administrater to come in to download programs - don't ask!!! - so I want to make sure it'll work before I bother doing that)... Any ideas?

Man try to open with KMPlayer...it will work...:cool:

If you don't want to install programs, then going with a portable version may be the answer: http://www.portablefreeware.com/?q=dvd+player They're usually zipped, so any recent Windows should be able to deal with them.

Best solution though is to just to get admin to install KMP.
