Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hey, i was thinking about getting a booster pedal. But i would much rather like to get a multi effects pedal that still could produce the same tone as a booster pedal could on my tube amp. Any advice

Seriously don't bother with multieffects pedals. Invest in a decent 3 channel amp, and you won't have need for boosters or the like.

No multi's! The seymour duncan pickup booster or a tube screamer both can do a pretty good boost.

Multi effects are crap. Go with a good multi-channel amp.

just got my new Hughes & Kettner Tubeman pre-amp last night, mainly for direct recording, but i reckon it'd go nicely into a basic 1 or 2 channel amp. Tone is straight from your fingers and gat so the rest is up to you. It might seem pricey at over 300 papers but i'm stoked with it.

A good multi-channel amp costs way more than a multifx box.

Why not use (or abuse?) an eq pedal as a booster?

I'm trying to figure out what he means by a booster pedal. A pedal to make yourself louder or to get more distortion from the amp?

An eq would be perfect for the first application, a tubescreamer would be perfect for the second (assuming you've a tube preamp in your amp)

well i presume it's to make himself louder for stuff like solos etc, wouldn't a simple volume pedal do that?

A volume pedal only decreases volume, no increase. If he was using one and he forgot to reduce the volume at the start of a song, he'd have no boost during the solo.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,361 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Ah, you want a treble booster.

will the above work as treble booster

    Not afaik.

BTW, a treble booster doesn't just crank the treble of the guitar. At least, I don't think it does
