    I am currently trying to find a supplier in ireland for tonewood for making guitars. at the moment im only able to get material overseas. would anyone be able to advice me ?

    Surely any timber supplier could supply you with wood from Irish trees? Lime, Ash, etc. should be all available.

    ive found that there are alot of great irish woods around. but my main problem is getting them cut to the sizes i need. ive only a small workshop, so my tools are limited

    resawing the boards into acoustic guitar sized sheets is a bit specialist.

    timber yards are happy to sell you planks, but getting down to 3mm thick is a whole other story.

    I bought some maple and brought it down to about 5mm using a circular saw with the guards removed (NOT RECOMMENDED!) then thropugh the planer to get it down the size. meant a LOT of wastage.

    I buy mine in bulk now from a luthier supplier.

    as to local woods, I've used oak, which bends really easily, but has pores you could loose a small child in

    ive done something similar myself in cutting down the boards, but i dont have the lugary of a pullthrough planer or a thicknesser sander. so it was all elbow grease
