Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hey, I'm looking to replace my old Vox VT20+ amp as it's only 30W, complicated and unsuitable for gigging. I'd like a simpler combo with a higher wattage that I could gig with for a decent price, I'm not really looking to spend much over €500. I normally play a Fender Kurt Cobain Mustang and an Epiphone Casino and mainly like playing punk and alternative rock. Can anyone help me out? Thanks

    Have you looked at the Hotrod Deluxe? 40 watts, plenty of grunt, not overly heavy and again there are a few under your budget second hand on the usual sites.....

    Blues Junior definitely should be considered too... The hotrod is almost too loud for a lot of situations, and if you need more volume you'll be mic'd anyway.

    "Simpler combo, higher wattage that is suited for gigging" was the initial question. The Blues Jnr is half the power of what the OP has!

    If you're looking for something simple that you can gig with, why not save yourself about €200 and get a Fender Champion 100.

    The vox valvetronix range are not true valve amps, how does the power output compare to an all-valve amp, or a fully solid state? A blues Jr would be louder than a 30w ss.

    It maybe louder but it'll also break up a lot sooner when driven, with the Deluxe it'll give you clean, not so clean and then balls out, there is a lot more control with the Deluxe also from and EQ point of view. There are a lot more options with them and it meets the budget of the op along with there being more of an over all wattage. Solid State amps in the long run also give more hassle and when something goes wrong with them nine times out of ten you need to bring them to a workshop, valve amps I find are much easier to fix in that normally a valve will smash(normally from the plug or footswitch flying around in the back), go microphonic or need to be reseated or the valve seats need resoldering, they are a quicker and easier fix.

    I think 30 watts is perfect for a gigging amp. I have a secondhand Laney LC30 and it's really good, nice clean channel and excellent drive channel. I have played a few lower lever fender amps (the hotrod deville & the blues jr. and was not impressed, (especially with the drive channel. Not a strong point with fender) I wouldn't be bother with them. Maybe look for an older 2 channel marshall amp on adverts. I have an 1989 jcm 800 combo and it's great. You can have a good clean channel & a great drive channel just using the channel switcher.
