    Hi there

I am returning to the world of VPN, and have a Cisco RV220W set up on the network, which I can connect to remotely. My issue is that the PPTP IP range has to be different to the IP Range of the LAN. How do I get the PPTP Users to be able to see the NAS on the network. The IP Range for the PPTP users is 194.168.100.220 to 194.168.100.230 and the LAN IP is 194.168.100.1. The address of the NAS is 194.168.100.253, and there will be more devices going up onto the network.
Thanks in advance for your help

Try setting up the LAN subnet as 194.168.2.0/24 then create the DHCP pool for your VPN connections for example 194.168.1.100 to 194.168.1.110 for example.

Go back to your LAN settings and change the lan to 194.168.1.0/24 and pool to 194.168.1.2 to 194.168.1.99

I've seen before that people have downgraded the firmware on these routers because this is a much more straightforward process on older firmware.

    ok, so currently I have:

    IPv4 LAN (Local Network)

    IP Address 194.168.100.1
    Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
    DHCP
    DHCP Mode DHCP Server
    Domain Name
    Starting IP Address 194.168.100.50
    Ending IP Address 194.168.100.254
    Primary DNS Server xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
    Secondary DNS Server xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
    Lease Time 262800

    Multiple VLAN Subnets

VLAN ID IP Address Subnet Mask DHCP Mode DNS Proxy Status
    1 194.168.100.1 255.255.255.0 DHCP Server Enabled
    2 194.169.100.1 255.255.255.0 DHCP Server Enabled

So should I change the settings above to:

    IP Address 194.168.100.1
    Subnet Mask 194.168.2.0/24
    DHCP
    DHCP Mode DHCP Server
    Domain Name
    Starting IP Address 194.168.1.100
    Ending IP Address 194.168.1.110
    Primary DNS Server xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
    Secondary DNS Server xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
    Lease Time 262800

I am sorry to ask, but I dont want to loose all out connections and mess everyones connections up!

I'm merely troubleshooting by memory, I didn't realise it was an active router in use. I'm not 100% confident in my suggestion and couldn't guarantee that your connection would remain stable and I'd suspect some downtime whilst making changes.

Since it's currently an active device, you could always try the Cisco support pages for accurate and up to date suggestions.

    Hey there
The Cisco support pages are not best, so say the least..... They dont even replicate the application accuratly!
I will keep on plugging away, maybe work through lunck while the traffic is down....

When you mention 194.168.1.x, do you mean 192.168.1x? 194 addresses are public ip addresses not private like 192?

    Um, actually, no.
I have set teh IP range as mentioned, but now that you have said that, it makes sense.
Can I make the LAN IP range anything I want? My ISP has assigned a static WAN IP of 95.45.xxx.xxx
With this in mind, does it restrict what my LAN address can be?
    Thanks again...

Ideally you should use any of the following private IP addresses.
    • 10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
    • 172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
    • 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255
