Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

My all-time favourite toy was Eagle-Eyed Action Man!! Had several of them and loved all the uniforms and vehicles you could get for him, would always pester my Mam for new outfits and any new accessories that would hit the stores. Got this aircraft for him one Christmas and was over the moon.....just found it on Google now:eek: and it brings back so many memories!! Great times!!:D

    Secret Keepers
Came in the shape of animals and bugs. I had five of them - the swan, the horse, the bunny, the purple snail and the blue ant. You got a key with them that opened up their bellies, shells, etc and you could hide stuff inside them.

    Cabbage Patch Dolls
I'm sure every girl had at least one of these.

    My little Pony
I had a huge collection of these.

Don't think I got many branded toys when I was a nipper, mostly cheap generic stuff and a few battered hand me downs.

I do remember getting a Care Bear one year...

    1167507511_0b2e54733e.jpg

Totally jelly at the Teddy Ruxpin though, instead I got a bear that recorded your voice. I tried to read a story into it so it would tell it back to me but it only recorded 3 seconds or something so only managed 'once upon a time they all lived happily...' :)

Oh yeah, and Playmobile and Trolls

    3733.jpg

Still have this little punk fella knockin about somewhere...

Ah he-man and star wars! Truly great toys. Definitely the big 2 in my childhood. So much so that I actually bought them all on ebay as an adult and had them wall mounted as a sort of memento to cheer me up when I need it.

As a kid I used to get only 'big toy' for xmas and bday and then the odd he-man or star wars figure here and there during the year depending on ... what I don't know exactly. I was happy to get them anyway.

All stopped when I hit around 11 and started getting interested in football and computer games and girls. In retrospect all 3 categories have been letting me down and leaving me miserable ever since! :pac:

No love for Transformers or Beast Wars? I see a lot of My Little Ponies, but not Hasbro's other pet franchise.

Anyway, here's some Beast Wars toys I had.

Was a big fan of he-man too.

My fave was moss man, and grizzlor

moss man and beat man were identical, except moss man was cover in glue and dipped in green velvety stuff that attracted every bit of fluff in sight

    mass produced but brilliant

MASK did it a lot too. They would simply take a figure from the original range, repaint it and stick it in another vehicle. You'll find several examples of this done, sometimes multiple times for the same figure

My mam told me when I was small, my Grandad went up to Belfast to get me this for Christmas one year as it was so popular and sold out in Dublin, what a great Christmas it was!

Anybody who didn't have any of this as a kid seriously missed out! I would still play with this if I hadn't given it away!

I didnt realize how lucky I was.....I had a really well-made green tricycle,
and a doll's pram, both really solid and painted green with a green leather hood on the pram.
My friend's mother asked mammy where we got them.
Mammy didn't tell her, and I didn't know.
Years later I found out it was something to do with my uncles working at Parkgate Iron and steel works in Rotherham! ;)

One day when I was about 7 a book arrived for me by post.
It was a beautifully illustrated "Alice in Wonderland" and there was no note or inscription. It wasn't my birthday or Christmas, so that added to the mystery and made it even more special.
Sometime later, another beautiful book arrived......"Grimm's Fairy Tales".
I had many uncles and aunts in Ireland and England, but I never found out who sent them. I absolutely treasured those books.

Tonka Trucks. They shaped by whole view of life. Whacking things with big heavy stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 673 ✭✭✭merlie

Sindy - The hair was very heavy for the dolls head and ended up decapitated

Patch ( Sindy's sister ) - It had really thin black hair the one I had.

    http://www.petradolls.co.uk/patch_dolls_information_page.htm

Tammy - I barely recall it. It was a Christmas present. I preferred Sindy before she became headless!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPSHkVYdpxw

Tressy - Was a doll I loved very much, she had hair that you could lengthen by pulling her hair from the crown of her head, and it would come out so far. and when you wanted it short, just push it back in.
This is exactly the Tressy I had: http://www.tressydoll.com/page14.htm

Sindy's Red Car - I remember wanting Sindy's bed as it was gorgeous. I asked Santa for it that Christmas and ended up getting her car instead. I was disappointed to say the least! The care was fun never the less. Here is the little car: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Sindys-red-car-box-1960s-/230643865037

Crolly Doll - Ah yes Millie was one of my most loved dolls. I got her from Santa and it was Santa's last present to me :( I named her after the movie, Thoroughly Modern Millie! She had lovely hair and I used to put her hair in rollers. I even knitted and sewed some clothes for her. I entered my doll into my schools best dolls competition, sadly though I didn't win!

It was great fun being a kid before the age of the electronics, internet, gadgets and gizmo's etc. :)

I remember those LCD games! My brother had one called "Kitchen Panic" which had plates falling from a shelf and you had to control a little guy catching them and stacking them up, all the time avoiding breaking any. Cats and rats could thwart his efforts. Strangely addictive.
