Nokia N8 Megathread

Decisions Decisions! Having always been a nokia fanboy I jumped ship to winmo, then android and then back to nokia. I've gone from 5800>n97>hd2>nexus one>X6 and finally back to a trusty n96!

Even with the N6 being capacitive I just felt nokia was behind the rest with their touchscreens hence going back to buttons. I was considering a jump back to android untill I got word of the N8, but I just fear it's going to be another letdown as in the past.

Even with it being symbian 3 it looks too simular for my liking to s60 5th and I just dont know if it's worth the risk. Whilst nokia have always had the basic phone functions spot on they seem to suck when it comes to apps & customisation other than theme's which good ones are few and far between.

I'm stuck on the fence between this and the iPhone4 at the moment & dont know which to buy

Can I just ask why you went from a nexus one to a an X6?

Been looking over this for the last hour or so. I've been a Nokia user for aaages (in between a sony ericsson) and this does appear to check all the boxes for me

- very good media player
- very good camera
- very good browsing experience

Saw this video online:

I think its between this or a Sony X10 for me but I dont want to wait till August when the N8 is supposedly released.

It was just little things that bugged me about the phone at the time, not being able to switch profiles like on the nokia, transfaring contacts from my sim was a pain, no alarm when turning phone off, again all little things that were fixable with app's but seen as the X6 was the first capacitive nokia I thought it would have been better than it was.

Nokia N8 is very costly selling in the Pakistan but it has sufficient qualities, its camera print and video recording is brielent.

question for you lads i have allways used nokia(bar once when i used a SE)which i later switched back to a nokia, i can get an ip4 as im out off contract.
would i be better off waiting for the N8 or a HTC desire/iphone4 also this multi tasking that people go on about the iphones dont have can someone give me an example of it.(i presume it means listening to the music player while sending txts etc)

Think the N8 looks great. As a confirmed Nokia customer, I have stayed with the N97 despite all the problems - particularly trying to charge it - this micro USB charging simply does not work. This seems to be addressed on the N8 - as it has the old 2mm charging point, in addition to USB charging.

Seems that the N8 is the phone the N97 should have been, basically the same with improved camera, video & software / operating system (I hope). I cannot understand why Nokia does not issue imediate updates where problems are identified. This is where they are losing out to the competition.

Looking forward to N8 user reviews.

i also have an n97 on my 2nd one the fw at first with all the freezing really p8ssed me off, since the updates i find it the biz was going get an iphone 4 for the sake of upgrading might hold out and see if 3 are going to release the n8 as im a nokia man.

Looking at this as a replacement for my N78 as its dying on its feet at the moment. Don't think its due for release till late September, so I'm trying to get as many reviews and opinions as possible. Any thoughts ...

well i looked around a few sites all stating its hitting the uk in a few days

and around 465 cant remember is it euros or pounds...not a bad price tag but we will see how it goes

hope nokia can stand back up with this

Availability according to both the Italian and Spanish Nokia websites is end of September. Which will just about meet their Q3 2010 target for this phone.

i have been due an upgrade the last few months but have held off for the release of the n8 was tempted to get the iphone 4 for free,but i find that nokia is light years ahead of apple after all nokia had video call 5 years ago along with the fact that you can blue tooth video/music from other devices compared to the iphone.

So I saw this been reviewed (briefly) on Techrader..
Anyone think this might be a good phone considering the mess they made with the N97. Have Nokia learnt their lesson. It's still using Symbian 3 though

also they are selling it sim free for £429 yet the nokia.it/fr website have it for 469e when i did a currency conversion the uk price jumped to 530+ euro.
im also not happy that three dont seem to have the phone on their uk network which means more than likely they wont stock it here.

i would say 249 on lowest and should be 29 on highest

Does anyone have an idea what networks will carry the N8 and when it will be released? currently PAYG with Vodafone after coming off contract with Meteor.

I have been a bill customer of 02, Vodafone, Meteor & Three so Im not fussy who I go with once the price of the phone is affordable

nobody knows ive asked all the networks
i was going to buy it from expansys today as they said they would have it in stock and guess what now they say its going to be two weeks but there site says different

Wouldn't rely on expansys.ie to have a clue when they are going to have it.

They kept pushing the date back day by day with the n900, Wasn't there fault the n900 was taking so long to come out, But they had everyones money on hold waiting for it to be released and just kept pushing the date back and back.

If you are set on getting the n8, I would wait until they actually have it in stock before trying to order it.

ive bought from them before they were good i have to says
i know they jump the gun with there dates but they told me today as i said above so will keep my eyes open,i still think i will find it cheaper elsewhere.

Nokia online store in UK now says end October.

The FT ran two pieces earlier this week saying it looked like being delayed.

Typical Nokia really, create a massive hype about a new phone and then delay it by months. It happened with the N900, and tonnes of others for that matter. It's ridiculous.

yeah im getting pissed off waiting and god knows how long before 3 have it(if they do get it) im thinking of getting the iphone 4 in the mean time and then sell it for the n8.

They dont want a failed early launch like the n97 got, and ruined its and nokia's reputation.

very true davy im still using my N97 and think it's the biz but the UI is not as good/upto the same level as the iphone,i have since ordered an iphone4 so going play around with that till the N8 arrives.

had a visit from two nokia reps today
well what did they have?
the C3,C7,X2,and the N8.
the 1st two i had no interest in
but the other 2 well they are something else the new symbian 3 is great,lots of new things,so for the symbian lover its a treat and easy to get used to the new changes
the N8 has super audio quality
the C7 very sleek smooth,did not like it as much as the N8 but the oled display is superb
these might just save nokia

they said november in uk and ireland on vodafone 1st so it looks like no october date

The E7 might be a better job, its the N8 with a full qwerty. Basically what the n97 should have been kinda thing. After living with qwerty, its hard too leave it

ah jimmy ffs stop teasing me:Ddid the reps mention what networks they are going release the N8 on, i have since got my self an iphone4 which will be f**ked out the minute the N8 arrives p.s did they mention anything about 3 getting it.

i just checked out the E7 specs davy and according to gsm arena it has no external memory card slot:( so roll on the N8.

Its has 16gb storage though so its not really a problem

yeah i know that:D i have only 4gb left off the 32gb on the N97 so need more storage space.
