Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I am planning on having a sand pouring ceremony for my wedding but finding it very hard locating coloured sand. Any suppliers in the south east?

Readily available online but P&P a killer.
I couldn't find it down here but our celebrant luckily had his own. However, it actually looks fairly easy to dye sand if you have a search online, I found loads of different methods.

Smyths toy shops have bags of coloured sand for children to play with. The ones i noticed were a bit neon maybe (they also had glitter sand, and glow in the dark sand).

They also sell uncoloured play sand for 3.50 a sack, so you could probably mix that with the expensive coloured sand for the colours you wanted.

Don't think I'll go down the neon sand route anyway :)
Think I have sourced the whole kit. All about weddings in arklow is great.
If it doesn't work out for me I'll definatly dye my own. Didn't realise it was so easy.
Thanks a mil, my time is getting short and I was starting to panic

A fad. The latest one. B and G pour coloured sand from two separate jars into a single jar, symbolising their hope that all sand be kept in one jar, and helpfully freeing up two other jars for making jam.

Next year it'll be a jam pouring ceremony.

Alright johnny rain cloud, I'd rather sand than candles, that's all. I do like your thinking on the jam with the other jars. Waste not and all that

Its beautiful, 2 colours sand are poured in together, they can never be seperated.

Ha ha. It doesn't appeal so much to me but id probably look at sand from beaches we love rather than coloured stuff..

    This made me laugh.

I think the sand pouring is a lovely idea. To me, it is nicer than the commonly used unity candles, as the candles are all blown out at some point, but you get to keep the lovely decorative sand jar/ bottle forever.

I thought it was a fad but we went with it and I love our jar of sand now. At least it is nice and decorative as opposed to a half melted candle. It is an especially nice ceremony when children are involved.

Sounds lovely, I've never seen it though! Do you colours get all mixed up on the way home though >?(I have googled, it looks like you can do it so the colours are quite defined)

I've seen a few of these done. Quite nice I must say. Tip for any thinking of going down this route is make sure the glass jar has a wide enough opening or you'll be there all day.

Sorry, cant post URL. Search for "sand" on Ikea's website

We used a vase instead of a bottle so it was easy pour. The celebrant had pre-mixed a third jar of our two colours so we had 3 jars to pour in total.
We were told that you can melt candles on top to seal the sand and place a little tealight holder in it as it sets. We haven't done it yet but sounds nice.
There is a shop on Etsy selling hourglasses that you can fill, thought it was a nice idea. Bit pricey though.
