00 toyota avensis 1.6 keeps failing on back brakes

    My toyota avensis keeps failing on imbalance nearside1.530kn offside 0.940 39% ive put new brake shoes on and new cylinder in offside but still failed any help would be great! Thanks. .

    Handbrake cable, stretched one side, giving an imbalance.

    what were the readings before you changed the shoes ??

    Are those readings for footbrake or handbrake ??
    If they are footbrake what is the imballance on the handbrake ??

    In my opinion you either have badly adjusted shoes or air in the system.

    Throw up a picture of the 2 test reports. All the brake readings.

    There is a cast iron proportioning valve on the bulkhead, these fail and give bad balancing to the rear, mine went bad and I had to replace it.
    Its a job that really needs a lift to do on a diesel but the petrol may have more room.
    I would bet that this valve is your problem.

    Here is the first test
    Rear axle nearside 1.430kn offside0.830 42%
    Handbrake 1.670kn 1.280kn handbrake passed

    Next test
    Rear axle nearside 1.530kn offside 0.940kn 39%
    Handbrake 1.630kn 1.270kn handbrake passed

    That's strange. The valve should only affect the foot brake.

    I'd guess they're not adjusted right with the handbrake readings off too.

    The self adjusting mechanism needs the brake cylinder pistons to fully extend to adjust itself properly.

    He said he put new cable on the left thats why its off abit on the handbrake..
    But got the value on the bulkhead changed and adjusted the brakes see how that goes dont really no what else to do see how it goes back for test tomorrow evenin for the third so ill let ya's no how I get on! ! Thanks everyone for your help.
