    What is covered under the scheme?

    The Deposit Protection Scheme covers:

    * current accounts;
    * demand deposit accounts;
    * term deposit accounts;
    * share accounts and deposit accounts with building societies; and
    * share accounts and deposit accounts with credit unions

    held with banks, building societies and credit unions. Ask your bank, building society or credit union to confirm that your account is one of those listed above.

    Some banks that operate in Ireland are regulated in their home country and operate here under EU rules. These banks include Northern Rock, which is currently under guarantee arrangements with the Bank of England and HM Treasury and Rabobank, which is part of the Dutch Deposit Guarantee Scheme.

    While Danske t/a National Irish Bank is a branch of an overseas institution, the Minister for Finance has confirmed that savers with branches of overseas banks operating in Ireland will benefit from the enhanced €100,000 guarantee providing the branch concerned has confirmed its intention to the Financial Regulator to paricipate in Ireland's Deposit Guarantee Scheme. Danske t/a National Irish Bank has confirmed its intention to the Financial Regulator. The Danish scheme covers up to Kr300,000 or approx. €40,000, while the Irish Deposit Protection Scheme covers the balance up to maximum of €100,000.
