Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Embedded Videos and copyright infringement

    An interesting recent decision in BestWater International Case (C-348/13), CJEU.

    Upshot is that is not copyright infringement to embed videos. Which from a boards.ie perspective is a relief. Think of the humour section being gutted otherwise.

    There was an American case about 15 years ago that held the same for hot-linking of images. I imagine it would be persuasive, but not binding here. Notably *.gif images can blur the line between still images and video.

    Of course, the image / video hoster is free to change the content at that URL or can block hotlinking, so hot linkers beware. Youtube appear to actively promote embedded videos, as it means they get a wider audience for their ads.
