Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Laptop for 'Digital & Media Design' Course....Mac or Windows

    Hi

    Young lad is doing this in UL this year.....he on a promise of a new laptop on his new adventures.

    However - he seems to think that an Apple Mac is more suited to this course......

    Anyone got any experience of this course??? What would u suggest?? Dread the thoughts of looking at Apple prices on Laptops. Hoping to spend max €700 on a Windows 17 inch laptop of some sort with good graphics, RAM, HD and student priced software like Office etc.

    Going into 4th year of DMD myself and i can say that if youre willing to spend the cash, a MacBook is the way to go. But a good Windows laptop will be just as good TBH. Most people on the course will probably have a Mac and there are modules where you have access to the Macs in the college. The software and programs taht are used are compatible on both windows and Mac

    Ya.. was going to bet a GOOD windows laptop. He has other software he uses for mixing music etc and uploading stuff to You Tube - so he has gone thru a massive learning curve over past year or so. he also uses a Trakkor Mixing console and only has windows software for same.

    So he might not be able to get the compatible software on a Mac.

    Also--- BIG difference in price!! Would be happy to go Windows if it acceptable for course

    A Mac would suit him down to the ground, Traktor runs a lot better on a Mac, I went from using Traktor on Windows to a Mac and its night and day, if he plans on taking his mixing and stuff relatively seriously....

    Yes the Mac is more expensive, but Apple do a student discount programme, I actually bought mine second hand on adverts and I haven't had a problem with it, its an old one also...
