Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

How they let MLOD and an editor from the Scum newspaper be on the same panel is a wonder all right, the two of them are as thick as two short planks.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,046 ✭✭✭Berserker

I honestly believe Enda Kenny is using this as a diversion.

I don't actually. The timing is completely off for such a thing. The budget is over and it is a good time for Enda and the government to go into cruise control. The fact that he was one of the last to meet the victim shows that, imo. If he wanted to milk it, he would have had seen her the day after the story broke.
He will not be interviewed anytime anywhere about anything.

Both him and Adams are chickens. Enda needs to drop this grudge he has with VB. I'm surprised that he hasn't, as it would be a nice stick to beat Adams with. Adams must be scared to death to face VB. He knows he is going to get thorn a new one, if he has to face him one on one.
Sinn Fein have to lose Gerry Adams.

It is incredibly unhealthy that a party has had the same leader for so long. All the negativity and scandal that surrounds him (Cahill, McConville, brother's child abuse, his father's child abuse) would be enough to see the back of any leader, in any respectable party.

I don't think they are thick Blaas but there is an agenda there for sure....

I have to say I don't agree there!...The Water Board fiasco is something that has Enda running for cover...again.

Well, that's not going to happen anytime soon....

I agree but is there anyone in SF big enough to push him? I get the impression that he has North Korea Kim like status in the party.

I don't think there is any way out for him now Berserker....

It's just a matter of time.

For their own sake in SF. They risk losing the plot if he doesn't go imo.....

I will wait for the next poll. People are a bit tired of Enda and his stupidity and false claims to cover his incompetence.

Am walking the walk, grey! Literally!! :)

I have to agree with Ger Colleran's comments about Positive
Action. There is something unseemly about all the sneering
re 'Angel Therapy', etc., which is doing the rounds today. Are
some of these people too young to know what the State did
to those women? Many of them have died; some were fearing
death because they were given contaminated blood. Michael
Noonan fought them tooth and nail. No one was ever arrested
for the criminal way they were treated. If Angel therapy or any
thing else gave them a modicum of comfort, good for them, I
    say!

Some of the spending was a bit bizarre, but it pales into
insignificance when compared to what Angela Kearns and Frank
Flannery got up to with our money!! :( It is so easy to go after
the small fry. Afaik, most of the women involved with Positive
Action were volunteers. I heard someone on the radio today who
was involved with it for years. She had expressed concern, about
what she saw as lavish spending, to the Department of Health,
even before the HSE was set up. They assured her that all was
kosher. I am not condoning some of the spending, but, come on!
A few hundred for dry cleaning, a few hundred for dog kennelling?
It made me feel quite ill to see Shane Ross and John McGuinness
baring their fangs to go after this particular group, I must say!!

Gosh, that was some 'rant', grey! My apologies!! :)

I had just been reading about Sean Dunne who has been
declared bankrupt in Connecticut and is now embarking on
a new construction project in New York! :( Also, Bernard
McNamara, who was 1.6Billion in debt, now free from
bankruptcy and carrying out development projects for Denis
    O'Brien and Michael Smurfit! :(

And here we are, being loaded with property charges and water
charges to pay their debts!! Gggrrr!! Positive Action compared
to those shysters? They are not even at the ball game!! :(

Goodnight, grey!! Going to make myself a cup of tea, haha!! :)

So, it's gonna be quiet on this thread tonight, I imagine

Good news : Colette Brown will be here later

Bad news : So will Paddy f*ckin Manning

Interesting to see Lucinda Creighton being pictured with Dessie O'Malley.

Are we seeing the next person to form a political party posing with the founder of the last person to do so?

Paddy manning speaking the truth. Those of us who always had to pay for water are fed up listening to people who say they already paid for their water through taxation which is a myth.
He is right too as there is no right to piped water into your house.

I am delighted water charges are being brought in, as I support paying for water, it will make people less wasteful and know water isn't free.

If Paddy Manning, or indeed Robert KK, wants to pay for water, away with them. Some of us may have a different opinion.

Opinions are one thing. The law is another. Those two supply their own water like 20% of the population - and contribute towards yours.

First class debate last night between Coffey and the Trinity professor; the other two were only a nuisance.

Any working man has been paying for water all along.
This silly argument abvout only paying for water now is a farce and meant to deflect.

It's the first time I will be going on a march on Sat. since the nuns told us to go for Wood Quay coolhull.....and we all know how that ended....:(

It's all about doing it right, not about paying for a valuable commodity like water. Fat cats getting richer.....

While I wouldn’t say I’m delighted water charges are being brought in, I certainly don't have a problem of paying for a good water service piped directly to my house and waste water drained away to be treated properly.

I've paid for it in the past when I lived abroad and fully realise that its an essential service treating and supplying a resource that is getting more and more scarce and needs to be paid for.

However - I utterly detest the idea that a portion of my income is going to fund an organisation that, right from day one has become a byline for cack handed incompetence and shown a total shambolic inability to undertake the task they have been given. And I don't just mean the current government.

To begin with, Irish Water are headed up by a failed city manager whose money burning legacy my in own home town included leaving us with a bill that overran into millions for the Eyre Square redevelopment that was eventually completed over 18 months late. As a reward he was promoted to Dublin City manager where he pissed away a mere €100 million over the Poolbeg incinerator fuckup.

And now we're paying him €200K a year with bonuses (along with 28 others on over €100K with bonuses) to do what he does best. Cock things up. And so far he's doing a pretty good job at that even if we never get to see or hear him. The man wouldn't survive till lunchtime in the private sector.

As well as the balls up over they way they handled billing before a single bill was ever sent out, their demand for our PPS numbers, the confusion over allowances, the exorbitant call out charges for repairs, their appalling customer service (or lack of it), and staff who don't know what their job is, it is also the government's lack of intervention and feet shuffling that make my blood boil.

Its never too late to do the right thing. Irish Water should be wound up immediately, management and board removed without recompense, and start the whole bloody thing again from the beginning using people with a track record for doing things right. Even Basil Fawlty, Frank Spencer and our own Father Dougal would do a better job.

It makes me sick to the pits of my stomach to see a public utility for an essential service being treated like a box of goodies by our government and divided up among their cronies at our expense no matter how incompetent those cronies are at the job. I have absolutely zero confidence in Irish Water.

And that my friends, is why, for the first time since the old farts in the IRFU tried to obliterate Connacht from Irish Rugby, I am taking to the streets on Saturday to kick up a racket.
