Passed by earlier and there is a very large quantity of gravel heaped on the centre pier. Is there a reclamation project about to start somewhere ? Just curious.

it was mentioned on galway bay fm this morning...call was supposedly put into harbor masters office...stilll waiting for reply.
from about 2 weeks ago all campers vans have been banned from parking in the docks overnight and had their electrical charge points covered over....clamping will be enforced for offenders.
lets just say both incidences are connected.....;)

The banning of camper vans was put in place by the City Council not the Harbour in fact it was opposed strongly by the Harbour Company, they will not be allowed to park there anymore, one stupid decision by our City Council.

Why did they decide that? Where else are they supposed to go with facilities for campervans?

There was an article in one of the papers saying that the City Council had told the Harbour Board to stop offering the service there.

Didn't give a reason, but hell everyone knows that motor-home owners (most whom are foreign tourists) are just like any other kind of k***r and so shouldn't be allowed to live anywhere but in a building. NOT.

The article said that there are now no facilities in Galway for motor homes. I guess they meant Galway City - surely there must be facilities somewhere in the county. But even then, it's wrong: the camp in Salthill does have facilities for them. http://www.salthillcaravanpark.com/

And I don't see how this is related to the type of materials that are being exported from the docks - surely the scrap metal heap would have disrupted people sleeping at the docks as much as gravel would.

I don't see how they're connected. Why would they drop the gravel at the centre pier to disrupt people in camper vans? most likely for something being built on one of the Aran islands or for export

Believe it's limestone (as already mentioned) being exported by mcgraghs quarry in cong
