I recent watched a program entitled "My Social Network Stalker" available on 4 OD & the amazing documentary Tall Hot Blonde (tallhotblonde). Both will make anyone think twice about using the net to meet someone.

Is that the one where the girl is a painter?? Definitely one to watch!

3 weeks back in online dating and the only good to come from it is that my wpm speed has dramatically increased with the amount of practice I am getting typing up messages:D

Have to say it can wear you down and dent even the hardiest of egos but we persevere hopefully other guys are having a little more success and there seems to be a core of similar experiences in the thread

Anyone have any other options that they have found to be more fruitful than online (that don't involve the lucky dip of getting hammered in Coppers and waking up the next day to see who you wake up beside :p)

Well I think you need to look at what you do socially? Are you into sports? Or have some other interest? Parties tend to be great to meet people. Or even (well I think so) old man pubs! Banter is always good and its a more relaxed environment than some other bars. :)

I think if you keep in mind that you are not going to be everyone's cup of tea and not take online dating too seriously then it won't annoy you as much.

Also, if you're not getting many replies, maybe have a look again at your profile and change it around.

Has anyone seen the pop up ad on one of the sites - Cougar Life?

Ad says 'save a cougar'. The pic is of a blonde woman - 40ish I guess - in a supermarket aisle. The tag line is 'this is the highlight of her day'!

Now I dont normally take offence at things - especially ads - but sh** that one is taking the p**s

    Cheeky feckers!

In terms of social activities I am heavily involved in sport and spend alot of time training but this is predominantly an individual sport and my training is mostly conducted around erratic work hours to say the least.

In terms of pubs I agree and like the atmosphere but being 22 have found very few my age frequenting these (perhaps I take "old man pubs" too literal:D)

I think you may be right in terms of changing up the profile though out of interest what do women tend to see as pro's on profiles (not looking to lie about myself as want people to gain a sense of who I am from my profile but at the same time the current set up seems to be lacking :) )

Music venues are good. Places like Whelans. (I'm guessing you're in Dublin). I think at 22 (I apoligise for generalising here) but most people are still about pre-drinking and heading out to a club. But I'm sure there are spots that have old man pub feel but for a younger crowd. I'm just not that young.

PM me your profile and I'll have a look. It might just be the way you've structured your profile is all. You know you so you think you know what you want to say has come across in your profile while it might actually not at all!!

Therein lies the problem I am not great with the whole drinking to get drunk. There is the odd lads night out for that but they are solely about having banter with the lads and my functionality for going on the pull wouldnt exactly be at its strongest :o

Cheers for the recommendations I will have to try the likes of Whelans more as have only ventured once

In work at the moment so cant link my profile but will PM later cheers for the offer

Well at least its less embarasing then getting blanked in a pub, no akward walk back to your mates.

Likewise I am trying to source an alternative way of meeting people outside of the pub/club scene and online dating sites and came across meetup. If you google it plus Dublin or your area it lists groups set up for people to meet and chat / socialise. There is a dublin group for young people to socialise (20-35) that may be worth checking out. I think going back to meeting people face to face for me is the only way to go, I find dating sites too frustrating and demoralising but knowing me at some point I;ll go back to them.

Boards beers is a great way to meet people. Maybe or maybe not to meet the opposite sex, but to widen your circle of friends and then you never know who you may meet. ;)

I used to hate getting blanked from the word go, but now the idea of it seems quite refreshing to me. All I seem to get these days is back and forth promising conversation followed by blanking... or if I'm really lucky organise a date followed by blanking.
Trust me, it's better to be blanked from the word go than to be led on for a while and then ignored wondering what the hell just happened..

I'm new to the online thing. From your experiences, which are best sites to join and why? I have a profile on match.com but haven't paid a subscription or haven't put up a photo yet. I'm thinking of moving to Madrid in September so it's a good way to check out the local talent there, hehe!

Its not so much the sites but the users. I've been on:

    okcupid.com (OKC)
    pof.com
    connectingsingles.com (CS)

    Overall Impressions of the sites:
The layouts on OKC and POF are very easy to use and get around. I found CS to be a pain to look at and navigate. Their search function was dire as well.

I dont like CS or OKC. I use POF and the odd time Smooch but thats not great either

Don't you use match.com? It doesn't seem that popular on this thread but seems to have plenty of Irish users. It's pretty easy to navigate your way around too.

Is it not a paid site?

I used match.com for a while but I didnt find it much better than the free sites although maybe that was just me. I used to get lots of winks (I think thats what they call it on match?) from guys as far away as south america!

It's no different to what was on it for the last few weeks, I have made no changes at all.

Woke up this morn to three new mails and two girls added me as favourites!!

    I'm getting suspicious now!!

I have found that profiles go in and out of rotation and when they are not in active circulation, one doesn't get as many views and then when for whatever reason, the profile goes back into active rotation, boom! messages, profile views and favouriting increase. Make the most of it while it lasts! :D

PM link and let's check out the goods. :p

Logically you would think that people who are paying are going to be more serious about finding someone. But I agree in that I haven't noticed much difference. The odd thing is I have seen people that have been paying, literally for years & are still on the site. I actually wonder if people get addicted.

I think you are right. Sometimes I'll go a full week with not so much as a mail, then on other weeks it's several mails, meet mes and favourites per day.
has been a slow few days on POF. Got a 'favourited' from a girl a couple of days ago, so mailed her but to no reply.

    Silver tongue turned to lead...

had abandonned dating site accounts and had not yet gotten round to deleting them. having not used them for a while I tended to ignore the mails that came in, until i got one from POF saying I had a message. so i decided to take the plunge and reply to it. it was a simple "hi" message.

Next thing I know after a chat through the site I had a phone number, and two weeks later we meet up. have been seeing her for over 6 weeks now.

hows that for out of the blue.
