External tap connection

Hello,

I must replace our garden tap as it is rusted up. I bought the replacement tap but foolishly forgot to pick up a the wallplate/elbow joint.
The tap is to connect to a standard 1/2" (internal diameter) black thick-wall flexible water pipe.
Would a fitting like this be suitable: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-outside-garden-tap-elbow-wall-plate-15mm-x-1-2-/120580894809 or are they for thinner rigid pipes?

The black pipe is most likely 3/4.

So you need a 1/2 wallplate with 3/4 connection

Most of fittings listed seem to be 1/2" with 15mm.

Would something like this do or is it overkill?

No that one won't do you need it to 22mm .
Call down to your local builders providers,plumbing suppliers and they will have one on the shelf

Wouldn't Irish 1/2 heavy gauge require an Irish 3/4 fitting ?

It would but the op is looking on eBay and what's the chance of getting imperial there
