Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Can't wait :D

I'm such an 80's geek. Seen American Werewolf (another of Landis's movies) tonight at 9.30 in Movies @ Swords and guess what???

I had the whole place to myself :D:D:D

Halloween night and have the a Werewolf movie to myself .. the stuff of dreams.

Off to tail end of fancy dress party now - man I wish I had a werewolf costume :pac:

Hey great idea for a thread, shame to hear that people didnt take advantage of seeing a classic horror on halloween night. Looking forward to see what'll be shown in the coming months have being dying to check out a classic on the big screen for a while now, not the biggest Animal House fan so i'll have to wait for something else to come along that tickles my fancy.

I've been away over halloween so i'm kind of annoyed that i missed out on seeing Frenzy on the big screen, i love that film.

Thanks, hope this one lasts as so many of the classic threads fade out as they have mostly been concentrated on one aspect etc

Sorry to hear that. I'll keep my eye out as they may show it again.

Know how you feel. I strolled down to the IFI last week to see Gremlins on 70mm and when I got there all the tickets were gone :(

Everyone has to see An American Werewolf In London before it ends on Friday, this film is so much more amazing on the big screen and the digital print is just beautiful!

Wasn't it great. I still can't believe I was so lucky, on Halloween night to get a whole screen to myself to watch it.

I think there must have been someone up above watching over me that night as I also seen the Paranormal movie in Cineworld at 6.30pm and on the way to Movies @ Swords I went out the back road behine the Airport I decided to get Burger / Chips and stuff in the Chippers in Rivervalley.

When I got them I thought I'll drive down past where I grew up and we used to light bonfires and watch everyone there, enjoy my grub and then head of to see American Werewolf In London, happy days.

When I got there the Bonfire was there but noone else was!? Parked the car and walked over and looked around the estate and nobody around?? Could see other bonfires in the distance were packed and here I was with my Bonfire. Then the cinema to myself .. if only life went like that all the time :)

+1 to everyone though not to miss this if you can. Great fun.

Sounds like a perfect night to me alright! Quite annoyed at myself that I didn't try see the other classic horrors, Day Of The Dead, The Thing etc.

Myself and my dad were the only ones bar maybe one other dude at AWWIL last night until about ten minutes in when a bunch of heads no older than 16 I'd say walked in. Needless to say they showed their age and lack of intelligence throughout their say by constantly informing the theatre of how "S**t" the film was, my guess is they saw the title on a lobby card and assumed it to be a new release. Thankfully they left before the film was over but I was slightly disappointed, they left before the transformation! I would've loved to have first hand seen that one scene completely silence them as it would have!

    Tell me about it.

I went to see Point Break in Blanchardstown UCI on Monday night and I LOVE that movie. Picked good seat so I could chill and then just as it started German couple came in and cracked open a botlle of wine and yapped for 20 minutes.

Eventually, I just leaned over and said "Look, I came to watch the movie and to listen to you .. alright!" .. they mumbled a few times after that but not I could live with that.

Same happened at Scarface .. bunch of idiots came in 5 minutes in and chatted non stop so I just left and came the next night.

I Blues Brothers I moved seat as some girl kept asking her boyfriend question every few seconds.

Different problem last week in that I went to see The Great Escape in The Screen and sound is too bloody low. Seen The Mist the other night there and again far far too low, The Shining the other day also too shagging low.

Your afraid to eat popcorn it's so bad. Girl sitting few seats from wa eating and looked at me and laughed and said "I'm waitin for the loud bits" as she reached into the Popcorn. I complained but they only turned it up a smidgen .. don't know what their issue is in that place. They never used to be like that.

A season of musicals coming up in the Screen:

    Singin’ in the Rain (1952)
    Dir: Stanley Donen, Gene Kelly
Starring: Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds, Donald O’Connor
Originally conceived as a way of using leftover songs from other MGM musicals, Singin’ in the Rain’s postmodern look at the changeover from silent film to “talkies” soon transcended its banal roots and became a favourite of critics and audiences alike. Gene Kelly’s “Singin’ in the Rain” sequence and Donald O’Connor’s “Make Em Laugh” are still considered some of cinema’s finest song n’ dance routines. This film is also notable for Jean Hagan’s outrageously funny turn as diva Lina Lamont.
    Tuesday 17th November 6.30pm

    Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953)
    Dir: Howard Hawks
    Starring: Marilyn Monroe, Jane Russell
These “Two Little Girls From Little Rock” certainly know how to turn the temperature up to 11 as Marilyn and Jane sing and dance their way through a transatlantic cruise in eye-popping costumes! The pairing of these two perfectly contrasting sexpots is remarkable. This movie sizzles with glamour, decadence and beauty. Famous for its “Diamond Are a Girl’s Best Friend” sequence, this is a film that shows Marilyn on the brink of superstardom and clearly illustrates what put here there; perfect comic timing, oodles of charm and a very special beauty that jumps right off the screen.
    November 24th

    Oklahoma (1955)
    Dir: Fred Zinneman
Starring: Shirley Jones, Gordon McCrae, Gloria Grahame, Rod Steiger
Oklahoma is a story set over the course of one day in a time where farmers and cowboys could not be friends and the last thing on a travelling peddlar’s mind was marriage! Perhaps one of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s more frivolous works, Oklahoma nevertheless showcases their songwriting genius with some of their most accomplished songs. With fun and energy, bursting from every frame, and classic songs such as “Oh! What a Beautiful Morning”, “I’m Just a Girl Who Cain’t Say No” and “People Will Say We’re In Love”, this is certainly one to catch on the big screen.
    December 1st

    The Wizard of Oz (1939)
    Dir: Victor Fleming
Starring: Judy Garland, Margaret Hamilton, Frank Morgan, Munchkins!
One of the world’s most adored films, still delighting and terrifying audiences the world over after seventy years. This visual and aural masterpiece and its incredible Technicolour palette has hardly dated at all in that time. Digitally remastered, Dorothy’s trip down the yellow brick road has never looked so opulent.
    December 8th

    An American in Paris (1951)
    Dir: Vincente Minnelli
    Starring: Gene Kelly, Leslie Caron
This Gershwin-penned musical features some of Gene Kelly’s strongest dance work. Here, Minnelli shows his penchant for visual decadence and Kelly shows what it means to be a true star! Numbers such as “I Got Rhythm” and “’S’Wonderful” are still classics and will have you swinging all the way home.
    December 15th

Meet Me in St Louis (1944)
    Dir: Vincente Minnelli
    Starring: Judy Garland, Mary Astor
Right slap-bang in the middle of World War II, Minnelli made this beautiful valentine to the talent and beauty of his new wife Judy Garland. Meet Me in St.Louis may be syrupy and sappy to some, but it is a beautiful and electric celebration of youth, beauty and family to others. A disappointed family learn they must leave their family home as their father is relocated, especially to the chagrin of Esther (Garland) who has fallen in love with the boy next door. Culminating in a festive happy ending, and Judy’s heartbreaking rendition of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”, this film is sure to warm the cockles of anybody’s heart.

    Singin’ in the Rain (1952)

    Thanks for the post.

Singin In The Rain is one of my favourite films of all time. I remember watchin reluctantly in my early 20's and then just getting absorbed by it. Fantastic movie and I won't miss the chance to see it on the Big Screen.

Only down side is that The Screen volume is pathetic.

This past few weeks I have seen The Lost Boys, The Mist, The Shining, The Great Escape and Child's Play and they were all so low a volume that eating popcorn was impossible.

One girl actually commented as much to me as she tried to eat hers and smiled. I went out and complained to staff and they did turn it up a smidgen but no where near enough.

Going to The Sugar Club for the first time this week also to see 'Dawn Of The Dead' but from the website it looks like a cool little place to see a film.
