Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Emissions Failure

    My skoda diesel failed nct emmissons should be 3 was 5.4 ( last year was 1.48) mechanic recommended oil change & filter clean erg valve (?) and some no smoke in engine, and bring it for good run before retest.

    Anyone know why the big change in one year ( 06 car in good nick and not burning oil) and why he did not reommend dieptane which I have only recently heard about ??

    Lastly is there anywhere I can ring it in advance of nct to see if any chance of passing this time , and where to/ what happens if fail second time

    Most of the time when a diesel with no obvious running issues fails the NCT it is just in need of an "Italian tune up"

    Do you do mostly short runs and/or does your driving style keep the revs and throttle openings low? With this kind of driving what happens is the exhaust system gets full of soot which just sits there until it is blown out. If this happens during the NCT emissions test then you will fail. A good hard drive before the test is always a good idea for this reason.

    Yes only have the car 12 months mileage is avg (20 k kilometres) ,city driving probaly don't run the car over 2500 revs or so too often

    It probably just needs a good run down the M50 so. The 1.9TDI doesn't usually give any emissions related trouble.

    the best way to pass nct with a diesel car is put in about 20e of diesel and 5 or 6e of petrol and drive it fairly hard for a few miles before the test

    What about the old car dealer trick of putting some kerosene in the tank to reduce the emissions on knackered diesals? :D

    I wouldn't put petrol or kerosene into the tank of any modern diesel. It is just asking for trouble.

    yep, what I do (and tell folk to do) to fire a good treatment in the tank,and drive into the NCT centre in 3rd gear and foot to the headlamp, have the car good and (red)hot when you get there.;) ohhh yeah............:pac:

    Thanks George brought for gallop Saturday , and smaller run this morning and it went through ok ( reduced from 5.43 to 2.6 ) Thanks again:D
