Toyota really are doubling sales this year! :D

Funny how sales have risen despite the fact that there no longer is scrappage though :D! I suppose the fact that we didn't have bad weather for the Christmas/New Year period made a bit of a difference though.

The figures don't tell the entire tale. Nothing happened by this time last year because of the snow so it looked dreadful. By the end of March the picture will look a little clearer.

Some people don't want a 13 reg car, so this year and 2014 might be up slightly.
At least if the motor trade are to be believed.

I wonder how many of these are pre-registered by the manufacturers?

I believe that they pre-register vehicles so that the sales appear to be up and then flog them through the dealer network during the year

Interesting. Merc are by far and away losing the battle for the premium ground, Skoda are playing a blinder but Citroen just look fcuked.

According to Citroen Irelands website there are 31 dealers in the country. Thats a little over 6 new cars per dealer in January so far. Take demos out of the equastion and I'd say thats fcuk all retail sales. That's just not viable. Proof though, if ever it was needed, that when cheap crap is'nt so cheap anymore then all you are left with is .....eh....crap. And in this case just crap that nobody wants.

(waits for someone to tell me I have it arseways as usual and that Toyota just got their s£$t out faster than the rest hence why their numbers seem higher than the rest:o:D)

Toyota owners should just be in a religious cult of their own really - they really are that special.

surprisingly poor showing by renault given their pricing I think. Also surprised to see the Toyota auris so low. Although I guess we now know why Toyota keep selling the hateful corolla saloon in Ireland - paddy just can't get enough of them!

26 dealers countrywide I believe, so its about 30-35 cars each. as you say, given the margins its hardly a prolific performance by any stretch. The smaller garages would be far less too

using the same measure, Opel's performance is woeful - only 522 cars from about 35-40 garages? thats not even 15 cars per garage

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,540 ✭✭✭Leonard Hofstadter

Yeah Opel's performance is really bad, they used to always come in around fourth of fifth. I can't understand why, as the Insignia is well equipped these days and now has a four year warranty. Though I have heard some dreadful stories about the reliability of the car, so maybe that explains it. A pity really as it's a seriously nice car.

M-B are dropping like a rock in Ireland in sales terms. Last year BMW sold more 5 Series than total M-B sales.

Also - Alfa Romeo - 6 cars in the busiest 20 days of the year. Sad to say it but they should nearly pull out of Ireland. I would think some of the 6 were demos also.

That's actually really sad to see - just goes to show how the more boring a car is the more the Paddy thinks it is a "good" car.

I bet 99% of the Audis, Mercs and BMWs sold were poverty spec models with boggo four cylinder diesels too. God I hate this country at times!

It'd be interesting to compare to UK figures. While 3 series has displaced Mondeo there, can't believe 5 series would get anywhere like the %age of sales. What does that say about demographics of new car buyers in Ireland?

How is it possible to stay open, pay the bills, salaries etc, with such low volume.

    2nd hand sales?

Those figures tell me old people and executives are buying cars. As well as car leasing firms.

A small minority are private sales. I could be wrong but that's what the figures suggest to me

Amazing that audi sold 435 cars yet didnt have 1 in the top 20.

looks like 76,000 cars predicted for this year, down from 90 last year.

Car sales up 1.5% in January but sales likely to slip back as Motor Industry predicts a 15% drop in 2012
    01 February 2012

The SIMI (Society of the Irish Motor Industry) has today released the January car sales figures which show a 1.5% increase on last year.
There were 21,313 new cars sold in January, an increase of 314 January 2011 (20,999). 3,057 of which were bought under the Government Scrappage Scheme which ended last June.

January is crucial for the Motor Industry as 50% of new car sales occur in the first quarter of the year.
Alan Nolan Director General of SIMI said "Despite the strong start we are still fairly cautious about the outlook for the year, predicting a fall of around 15% in new car sales for the full year which would deliver a market in the region of 76,000 new car sales for 2012."
"Speaking to garages on a daily basis, it's clear that footfall is down on last January and of course, some 16,000 cars were sold on Scrappage last year which we don't have this year."

Official figures show that new car sales were up 6.5% in January compared with the same month last year.

000555a6-314.jpg January a key month for new car sales

Official figures show that new car sales made a strong start to 2012, up 6.5% in January compared with the same month last year.

The Central Statistics Office said 14,507 new cars were registered in the month, up from 13,624 a year earlier.

Figures from industry body SIMI last week indicated a 1.5% increase in new car sales in January, though it said it was cautious about the outlook for 2012 as a whole. January is an important month for the sector as 50% of new car sales usually occur in the first three months of the year.
Today's CSO figures show that just under 24% of January's new cars ran on petrol, while almost 73% were diesel.

Toyota led the way with 2,612 new cars licensed, followed by Ford (2,006), Volkswagen (1,640) and Nissan (930).

The CSO also said the number of new goods vehicles licensed in January was up 11.7% from a year earlier to 1,082.
