Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

cat6 cable with cat5e keystone

    hi guys,

    I want to wire my house with cat6 cable. if I use cat5e keystones will that bring down the max speed of the network too cat5e levels.

    Should have minimal impact but the keystones are cheap to replace. The cable is the main thing. Once it's pulled that's your main cost. Leaving an extra inch slack behind each socket should mean that if you need to replace the keystones down the road it'll be a two minute job.

    I'd be very surprised if it has much of an impact that you'll ever notice in real world conditions though.
