Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

ICAI Membership Fees -no longer working in Accountancy

    Hi,

My main question is, are these fees payable if you no longer need the services of CAI i.e. a change of job completely to one unrelated to accountancy? I would like to keep my options open if I ever choose to return to that profession but at €577 p.a it's a costly option to have.

The alternative is to be struck off? That hardly seems fair considering the cost and hard work I put in in the first place to achieve membership .

If anyone has any advice or would have been in the same boat it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance :)

    Just saw this now.

You will need to maintain your fees to the CAI if you wish to remain on the register as an ACA.

But, nobody can take away that you qualified after passing the exams, and that you had enough experience to become an ACA.

If it's something you cannot afford then the CAI may look at charging you a reduced fee.

Also, I know of people that left the CAI and returned at a later date, but they had to pay for the intervening years. This might be due to the fact they never deregistered. Maybe you don't have to pay for intervening years if you deregister, but I suspect you would.

    HI,

Sorry for the very delayed response and thank you for the advice. At least its peace of mind that I do not lose my qualifications.

I think its probably best at this stage to speak with someone in the ICAI and figure what I should do.

    Thanks again for the advice!

Ring them and tell them your situation. My gf has her fee reduced to 200 I think or maybe less so she can maintain membership.

Can you claim any tax relief for paying CAI fees?
