I don't know how many people here tie flies but would there be any interest in a fly swap? I've done them on other forums and they're good fun.

I'd like to - the last fly swap I was involved in, I was the only one who bothered to tie any. If a good group gets involved it's a nice way to get yourself a good variety of flies.

What exactly does a fly swap involve, do we swap specific patterns each time or whatever we want ?

Say 5 people are involved. Everyone picks a fly, if it's a themed swap e.g. river flies, dry flies, nymphs or whatever you pick a fly of that type, and ties 5 of those flies. They post those flies to the swap organiser along with a stamped addressed envelope and the organiser sends one of each fly (i.e. 5 different flies) to each of the tiers. It's a good way to get samples of a couple of different types of flies.

No minimum skill level required - I'm very much a beginner tier.

:eek: If your salty flies look that good and you're only a beginner you should think about entering some contests in the near future - they're as good as any I've seen and I've been tying for saltwater for over 10 years now.

I find the huge salt water flies a lot easier to tie than fiddly little trout flies though

If any of ye are interested I'll take 2 or 3 copies of your favourite flies at a euro each up to a tenner's worth, max 5 flytiers.

if u think its worth ur time post here and i'll pm u my address. when i get the flys i'll post u out a tenner. if i don't post the tenner then you can berate me for ten years. i'll need the names of the flies on the same sheet u pin them on so i can look up their history.

if u've no interest , no problem.

I'm going to do the Klinkhammers on a size 14 but Klinkhammer hooks are massive. I'd say do whatever size works best for you.

I've done the nymphs on size 16s.
Do we stick them in any flat envelope or a container in an envelope. The nymphs would be ok but i'd imagine klinkhamers would get squashed in a flat envelope.

Ye can count me in for next time. The tying gear needs a dusting off as its usually seatrout patterns I tie when they start running but I could offer up medicines or teal blue etc.

A cream &olive bob fly - should be useful around mayfly time. I think he did them on size 14 as well.

Silver Doctor (trout)? A fantastic little seatrout pattern and basic enough material.

That's a fair point - will we hold off on the sea trout until next round then? I'll still host that one if somebody wants to take the saltwater - and put me down for a crease herring for that one. ;-)

Yeah, thats only fair. I have never really tied saltwater patterns. Certainly not while following a specific dressing. I could have a go anyway. Any suggestions for a pattern would be welcome? And the best hooks to use?

Im not the best when It comes to organising these things but by all means If there is someone hosting a saltwater fly swap Ill participate to make up numbers If nothing else. Im waiting on materials But I could knock up a few clouster minnows no problem. I think it would be different.
