    Budget €650

    roughly 15.6 inch screen
    Reasonably future proof if possible.

Need Laptop for work, study and movies, (gaming is unnecessary for me)

I need applications to open fast as I will be working with a few programs open. MS office (heavy use of excel 4-5 workbooks open at a time with lots of data, power-point and word)

It needs to be comfortable for lots of typing, and be portable.

Hardrive capacity doesn't need to be that big.

It must be capable of playing HD movies.

    Thanks.

    Thanks for your response,
But the laptop needs to have a bigger screen to accommodate my work.

I have lots of applications open at once so probably 15 inch is the minimum.

    Any other suggestions ?

An AMD A-6 laptop for 600 sterling? Are you serious? Benchmark score is similar to a Sandy Bridge Pentium processor which you'll find in the bargain basement for 350 yoyos. ;)

If you can stretch your budget a little bit, the Lenovo ThinkPad E530 with an Ivy Bridge Core i7 quad core processor and 4 GB RAM costs €720.

I hear rumours about a 10% voucher for this model.

Do you know what the screen is like on the E530?

Surely there has to be some corners cut for i7 at that price.....

    This worked for me: CJIRL1630SEP

Going by what it says I'd assume it will only work until the end of the month.

Don't they come with a 14" display and an ULV processor?

What happened to 15.6" display and suitable for heavy workload? :D

    I got the 15.6 inch model. :p

Yeah, the processor is a 'U' model but its holding up so far so I'm happy.
The keyboard is nice to type on which is a god send for me.

Ultrabook is a marketing exercise and there's nothing in Intel's ideal that says one can't be 15.6 inches.

HP correctly uses Ultrabook on the above model. They do differentiate by calling a 15.6 Envy with an AMD chipset a Sleekbook, their own exercise in marketing that Intel probably doesn't much appreciate.

    God bless marketers ;)
