Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Turn off radiator with one or two valves?

    Hi guys.

My radiator has 2 valves. Which one do I turn to turn it off? Or do both need to be turned off?

Also, the valve on the left is extremely stiff - any tips on loosening it?

    Thanks.

right one, if water's not getting in, it doesn't need to get out

Turn it clockwise to turn off yes?

So turning both valves off would do no harm, rather it's just unnecessary?

No need to touch the left one at all. Leave it as it is.

    Yeah, clockwise.
Afaik it shouldn't do any harm, they're just set up to allow them to be plumbed in either way. If it's stiff you wouldn't want to risk it sticking closed though.

Edit: ^^ Like he said, no real reason to go near it.

The left valve is for balancing and probably set to the acquired level.

Don't close the left side as it's more than likely set to a certain point for balancing the system.

What would happen if someone closed the left and the right was left open.

Just curious how would it affect the heating system?

    Edit: I misread your post.

That would result in just switching off that single rad.

If the two valves were left fully open:
It could rob all the heat from the system, the hot water would just loop back to the boiler. Same thing could happen if someone opened the valve fully at the bottom of the hot water cylinder. This would result in no heat at any rads and very hot water at the bathroom.

I tried to turn off the right hand valve today (clockwise). No good. It's too stiff. Any hints/ideas? :(

Use the other one and count the turns, so that you can put it back to where it was when you need to use it again.

That too seems jammed -- but I was advised anyway to leave the left one alone.
