Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Gosh there are some dumb posts on that site. They need expert help & should be talking to wildfowl experts who catch geese. Personally I would wait till it roosts & then quietly surround it preferably with several people holding a net as high as possible.

    Have they posted anywhere looking for help ?. Galway Swan Rescue would be a good start.

    It has been on the UTV news for the last two days with people asking for help. I would have thought that was publicity enough.

    Not if there is no name or contact number. The RSPCA are very experienced at Wildlife Rescues & there is a rescue in the North called TACT. From the TV clip it would appear that people have watched the Goose for ages & no one has done anything to contact a rescue.

    I doubt if Galway Swan rescue could go there but they would be able to advise.

    In fairness, the clip I saw on TV showed people putting up nets to try and catch the bird. They tried but it seemed an amateurish effort. Still, it seems beond belief (if it dies) that no one could do anything, for whatever reason.

    I emailed the USPCA & TACT last night. I will also email UTV. No one seems to of added the line "if you can help please contact ....."

    Part of the problem is the more failed attempts the more wary the bird will get.

    I assumed that once the general location of the stricken bird was given, (which it was), that an expert would know where to luck. :confused:

    Sounds logical doesn't it. I meant in terms of gathering local volunteers etc. When I used to do this I would be called out by a member of the public or organisation. I would ask them to get some volunteers & I would bring some equipment.

    Sometimes it's easier to have lots of helpers where as other times you are better acting alone. It depends on the location, the type of animal & it's mental state. There are very few specialist wildlife rescues here - I can't speak for the North. In England I would of had plenty of people to call on for help if I needed it - I once had two Policemen who removed most of their uniforms & waded into a lake to help me.

    If the greylag can't be caught, they should get somebody to shoot the bird otherwise it's either going to starve to death.
