Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

This is on the same level as the Half Life 3 threads

I don't see the point in releasing something like this until the rest of the books are finished, seems a bit strange.

Neither do I, I assume an updated version will have to be released with all the history that will be made by the end of the series, one to read in Easons while waiting for a train for me anyway.

Probably wants to cash in as much as possible while there's a load of hype. Once the books/tv series are finished, he'll lose the interest of all but diehard fans.

    Lose interest?

He'll probably be dead by that point.

Dunno if they will have it today, but I read elsewhere that they were charging the guts of €40 while it's available for €25 on Amazon.

I'm hoping I'll get my hands on it sometime in the next week.

I had half an ear on this yesterday. About 90 minutes long but quite interesting:

    I wonder why that is?

Ah I suppose it gives me a chance to finish my current reading.

And to not ignore the kids during mid term break.

Maybe it's to help prevent illegal downloading, they'll sell some more books, just a guess anyway.

Its everywhere, Dubrays, Easons, random book shops. Very high quality alright, Ill wait for the price to drop though, too much to read at the minute and Ill leave it until closer to Winds of Winter anyway, hopefully someone will give it to me for Christmas.

Yep, and as I said the other day apparently 25 online.

I love the instant gratification and excitement of going to a shop and buying comics/books/games/films but shops really have no basis to complain about people ordering online, or even downloading when they are taking the p*ss like this.

Got this on Friday, it's €18 in Hodges Figgis on Dawson Street in Dublin, and those Bookstation places have it for €19!

Picked it up today for €18 in Waterstones. Beautiful book. Full of little nuggets. We get to find out why Bloodraven was sent to The Wall as a Prisoner!

Would I need to read Dunk and Egg to understand The World of Ice and Fire? I've read neither but I plan on reading both..

No ya wouldn't, the D&E period is only a tiny part of the time it covers.

There are just some mentions of characters etc. that you'll come across in the D&E's.

There are some minor spoilers in TWOIAF for the first D&E so consider that if you're going to read it first.

I loved D&E, really enjoyable insight into Westeros when it was full of Targaryens! AWoIaF won't spoil D&E but it does have major spoilers to the eventual conclusion of The Tales, which at the moment are still unreleased by GRRM.

There are 2 other novellas you should read after Dunk and Egg aswell:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Princess_and_the_Queen

    and

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rogue_Prince

Both good, not as good as ASOIAF imo but definitely worth a read.

Very enjoyable read so far. Really helped put together in my head all the feckin Targaryen kings.

Some great artwork as well, especially the inside back cover of the Battle of the Trident (which correctly shows Robert and Rhaegar fighting on horseback) and inside front cover depicting Dragonstone.

Bought it yesterday €18. The artwork is fantastic especially the dragon stuff.

Balerion the black dread was monstrous.

Quick question, I've yet to read any of the Dunk & Egg stories or the 2 recent princess and the queen and the rogue prince stories but I do intend on reading them probably before I look at a world of ice and fire.

What I was wondering is can I buy the D&B stories as standalone books or do I have to buy the anthologies that they are contained within? Is this the same for the princess and the queen and the rogue prince?

Yes you can only get D&E in anthologies, same as The Queen & The Princess and The Rogue Prince. However you can find the first two D&E in comic book form, they are beautiful versions.

But you don't have to have read them to enjoy The World of Ice & Fire. TWoIAF contains a different POV of The Queen & The Princess, which is interesting.

I'm not sure of the legality of what I'm about to say but surely there must be somewhere online one could read the material pertaining only to GRRMs work. It seems unfair that I have to buy whole books just read certain chapters that I'm interested in.

With ebooks and the like all over the net surely somebody would've released the relevant chapters from Dunk & Egg, The Queen & The Princess and The Rogue Prince..

Does anyone know if such a thing exists? Or if it's even legal??
