Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

HI My Name is Marco Forte, im sure all you Irish android users out there will be happy to know a Dublin Bus app is on its way.
The app is now entering beta developement, it will most likely be free with a possibility of a donate version.

    Features include:
    • Offline BusTimes Database.
    • Next bus times in either direction on the given day.
    • Favorite bus routes.
    • Dublin Bus rss updates
    • #Dublinbus twitter search
I would love for people to leave feature suggestions and general feedback.

Ps.IF you would like to take part in the private beta of the app please pm and i will link you to the download. I would be updating the beta app bi-daily and feeback would be great.

Great news. I hate the dublin bus site.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,579 ✭✭✭BopNiblets

Sounds good, I've been using 2 screenshots of the timetables I use from the site and it's fiddley zooming in and out between two pictures to see when the buses are.

A native app would be handy! PM sent.

Seeing as this is a Dublin bus thread there is also a Dublin bus layer of information for the Layar augmented reality app.

    This would be so handy.

    Sounds great.
I don't suppose they'll give you access to their real time bus locations?
Timetables are ok, but if you're waiting on a bus in the middle of the route, and especially if you're not familiar with the route, you've no idea how long you may be waiting.
An app that plotted the nearest bus's location on your selected route would be of great benefit!

This would be a very handy app indeed :) layar is cool and all but it feels weird when im pointing it around :P

    Great News!!
Just to let you know Dublin Bus never use there Twitter

Hi, Believe me if it were possible to get the buses location in real time I would be on it like that (snaps fingers). If you look at the Dublin bus website they are testing out real time buses with gps attached, so this could be a feature in the future, although im almost certain they would make their own app for that.

How possible is the route planner that they do

Similar kind of one on hittheroad.ie

infact the hittheroad.ie one is better as you can drag and drop pins on google maps and it plots the best route suggesting bus's and trains and luas as options of getting there

I agree, it has become one of the best methods of rapid communication to the masses.
Email Sent to Dublin Bus anyway about twitter, maybe you should do the same.

Hello and thank you for applying for the beta version on my app, I hope you enjoy it.
Unfortunately due to a Computer science lecture I had to attend this evening I was left with no time to further develop my app.
It is because of this that I will only be realesing the Alpha version of the app today that contains solely the basic features but the core functionality is there.
Also the app only contains bus routes 1-5 in this version
So dont expect much real world usage.

By means of a beta test I plan to have two new threads
on boards.ie: One for Bugs and another for
    Feature/suggestions.

In Summary thank you, please test out this version and

expect the first beta release over the next 1-3 days.
    Here is the link http://bit.ly/APPDublinbusAlpha
or even a nice qr code for you.

Hi sorry about that glitch guys I had forgotten about it since it only happens the very first time you open the app. I know how to fix it and It will be fine in the next update.
Protip for such glitches and reporting them.
First off they shouldnt actually force close the app just give a error and ask you to, but if you want to continue pressing the hardware back button should solve the problem.
As for reporting them 'listermint' has the right idea ie.
-Give a basic rundown of how you got to the error
    -What the error is
-What error message comes up(if any)
-Maybe What you wanted to happen.
    -Device model and firmware
Ps. Only supports 1.6 and above
    Thanks
    Marco.

Opened it by pressing the back button

    Questions:
How do I add a favourite?
Why is only routes number 1-5 available?

Also Im getting a force close when I try to open a second bus route:
    Sorry!
    Activity
busTimes184_beta5_copy1_copy (in application busTimes184_beta5_copy1_copy ) is not responding
    Forse close / Wait

    Also for bus route 2
Select List item: list index too large
Select list item: Attempt to get item number 2 of a list of length1 (false)

    Forced to "end application"

    HTC hero 2.2 (floyo 1.1.9)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,071 ✭✭✭101001

working fine here. desire 2.2 Though the next bus button takes a while to get a result and when it does it gives you the timetable

maybe while in the bus timetable hitting the back button would brimg you to previous screen instead of quitting. You do have the main menu button but force of habit makes me click back which quits the program

gonna try this later on :) if this had tracking on all the buses that would be a killer :D i got a bus stop outside my house :) and i could know when i have to go outside rather than standing outside hehe :) also all the late comers would be forgotten :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 334 ✭✭crimsonfire

Great app! The basic functionality is spot on. I kept forgetting the number for BusTxt too so that is handy haha.

I'm assuming Dublin Bus don't do realtime fleet information like Irish Rail. I saw them testing out electronic signage for bus stops that do the same thing as the ones on a DART platform a few years ago but the technology obviously hasn't taken off yet.

    No love for 1.6? :(

Oh well, the pictures and description look nice anyway. Good job on taking the initiative and filling a much needed gap in the market. :)

It would work very well within this app also...
