Why do they cry all the time...honestly, the exact same as the crowd last year, cry at the slightest thing

The leaders all look lovely, however it seems to me that the chosen leaders are guaranteed rapid weight loss if they do the work.

It's more difficult for women over 40 to lose weight but they're not represented at all :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 6 Jollyman2

I was one of the final 24 there tonight, and Grace is lovely all the leaders are actually.

I just think the two men they picked are very similar, behinde the scenes and the cameras they try to play on your heart strings as much as possible to make you cry though!!

it's a little frustrating that it's always really obese people that are chosen as leaders.these shows never get a leader with a bmi of 27-29 and bring them down.
I can see that girl from limerick being like that girl from last season who didn't re-appear for the 6 month follow up!

Kayleigh is also a very attractive girl and so is the other girl Natalie - all 3 girls have beautiful faces so I'd say they'll be gorgeous when they lose the weight and look and feel healthier :)

The cork woman will struggle with the smoking.
I noticed others wearing what appeared to be nicotine patches.

The "starting point" jog at the end was pretty stark though.
It will be a struggle, but I think they will make it.

I dont think they all ran it last year. From memory I passed one or two and they were walking it. To go from running 50-200metres to 5k in 7 weeks in tough going to be fair.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,892 ✭✭✭spank_inferno

Your probably right, though I think a 5K jog in 7 weeks is very possible

The 2 gents may make a good stab at it.

Do they go out of their way to select whingers for TV purposes are is that a general weakness in fatties?

Anyone notice the eating plan, yer one has the women on 1000 calories a day! Most professionals would say 1200 is the minimum level one should go to in order to avoid throwing your body into starvation mode.

I didnt notice that but I did have a glance at some of the recipes and thought they were pretty bland. The vegetarian lasagne for example, didnt seem to have any chunks of veg such as squash or courgette, just a tomato sauce and pasta. bit dull..

Umm.. Grace isn't obese never mind really obese she's in the overweight category you've just described.

This under 1200 cals is not fully accepted, there are 800 calories diets some patients are put on by doctors for blood sugar levels.
So with all the medical supervision and professional planning out all your meals and exercise that shouldn't happen to them.. as for anyone else following it I'm skeptical that its the right approach for everyone to follow, in the long term some people would be better off reducing their calories over time or at least down to 1500 and then maybe 1300, 1200.

Saw this last night and I notice that this show is the same as every other show on TV these days - tears, tears and more tears.

Now, I really hope they all do well and lose weight, but whats with the whole "I'm hurting my family and I don't want to die early and leave them (blubber, blubber, tears, tears)" - did you not realise this years ago? Why does it take a TV programme to make you see your gluttony?

I dunno I think it's part of the tv program design. Put them on a low call diet, have them bet the target week two, then have people start to cheat the following week so some meet target some don't, by week four others start to plateau. It's better tv then following a slightly higher calorie diet without all the drama.

Is that the girl with the dark hair and a fringe and who was concerned about her father? Yeah she's very pretty alright. If she lost a stone or so, it would do her the world of difference:)

They're a lovely group of leaders. I thought it was lovely when about 150 people turned out to join Adrian on his walk. He's a likeable guy. I'm following Grace as she is a similar build and close in age to me and her progress this week has put me to shame! Well done to all of them.

Grace is a stunner indeed. She's one of those people whose face looks good no matter what weight they are.

Natalie looks gorgeous in that motivational picture she stuck up.

I'm following grace on it. I'm not doing the food though. I just don't find it that appetising and i dont eat that bad anyway
(having said that I've only lost a pound!)

A pound is a pound! Don't knock it! :D I don't follow the food strictly either, some things I will make if I like the look of them. I'm following her too, not doing too bad. 4 off this week :D WIsh I could kick the fags too!! :P

Well done,it all adds up over time.
Wouldn't recommend giving up smoking at same time as tryng a weight loss programme-too much at once.
I think these leaders are great, the thought of standing in underwear on weighing scales on national television wouldn't appeal to me - and I'm slim.
This chronic weight problem is getting out of hand,so hopefully, everyone who needs to change their lifestyle will do so.

Since when is smoking 20 fags a day chain smoking  Your man with the false accent that was crying because he though when people look at him they might think he was fat. He was like a cry baby. He is 39 and needs to grow up or else man up a bit.

It's still too many, I am down to about 10 a day, and hopefully I will quit in the months ahead!

It can't be easy on any of them to go on national tv and expose themselves like that.

Would KT ever learn that "lieutenant" is not pronounced "left tennant"

Felt awfully sorry for Grace, she looked really shocked.

I'm liking Kayleigh (sp?) more and more - I reckon she'll do really well in the end.

Anyone else signed up for the 5K in the Phoenix Park in Feb?

I really dislike the female judge, Ava is it? You can tell that she has an immense dislike for overweight people, anyone see her rant at Adrian over the fry his brothers have every morning? Ridiculously unhealthy I know but if she started to go on about me being disgusting I would have told her to STFU.

Felt sorry for Grace alright, what your man Karl said was true about having to up the intensity level every week.

Chain smoking is continuous smoking, it would take a lot more than 20 a day to keep a chain smoker going. KT calling that girl a chain smoker was nonsense.

Fair play to you for going down to 10 a day. I hope that you will be able to kick the habit.

Why don't they ever do a follow up of the previous years contestants? Probably because they go back to stuffing their gobs when the show is over. They don't ever lose much weight anyway during the show  RTE should film the show over the summer so that the contestants have time to lose enough weight so us viewers can see the difference. Then they should broadcast it during the winter bringing the contestants back at the end to see if they kept up the weight loss :)

Also, as Grace is not obese, she's probably not going to lose weight as quickly as the others. She had a phenomenal weight loss last week, IMO it's not surprising that the results wasn't as impressive this week.

Totally agree, the look of disgust on her face. Her attitude is appalling. What a sanctimonious witch.

Well, the show is only six weeks or so long, they're not going to lose a huge amount in that time. Dropping huge amounts of weight on crash diets is much worse.

Oh I totally get that, I'm speaking from experience myself. :) What I meant was that if you're obese, keeping the same level of intensity in your exercise is fine and you'll keep losing weight. It's when you get down to that last stone or two that you really have to start upping the ante in the gym or whatever.

Isn't that the point I made in my post that the time frame for them to lose enough weight was too short ;)

    Anyone tuning in again?

Dr. Eva's givimg me the shivers already, and it's only started! I'm a low-carb fan (even if I'm not very good at it) rather than a low-fat fan, but even apart from that, has anyone ever heard her say anything encouraging, ever?

  • Registered Users Posts: 922 ✭✭✭trishasaffron

Would KT ever learn that "lieutenant" is not pronounced "left tennant"

I don't think its as clear cut as that!

    Pronunciation
Pronunciation of lieutenant is generally split between the forms /lɛfˈtɛnənt/ lef-ten-ənt and /ljuːˈtɛnənt/ ( listen) lew-ten-ənt, with the former generally associated with the United Kingdom, Ireland and Commonwealth countries, and the latter generally associated with most other countries including the United States.[1] The early history of the pronunciation is unclear; Middle English spellings suggest that the /ljuː-/ and /lɛf-/ pronunciations may have existed even then.[2] The rare Old French variant spelling luef for Modern French lieu ('place') supports the suggestion that a final [w] of the Old French word was in certain environments perceived as an [f].[2]
In Royal Naval tradition—and other English-speaking navies outside the United States—a reduced pronunciation /ləˈtɛnənt/ was used. This is not recognized as current by the OED, however, and by 1954 the Royal Canadian Navy, at least, regarded it as "obsolescent" even while regarding "the army's 'LEF-tenant'" to be "a corruption of the worst sort".[3]

I didn't mean that... not arguing the case for either pronunciation! But if you're going to go for the English/Irish one, then it's leftenant, not left-tenant. Listen to it this week!

(I can be a bit of a nerd/pedant about these things when they've caught my ear - apologies!)

I'd always thought I'd just been mis hearing they way people said it... I thought that they were pronouncing as "LET - ennant", but it seems that people do put in an "f" ..
