What's the consensus on universal chargers?

    I want to pick up a couple of extra power supplies for two new laptops, as they both spend time in two locations and we'd rather not have the hassle of unplugging, winding, and lugging around heavy chargers with the machines.

    The manufacturer's 120w charger is about double the price of some of the universals, but I've no idea if the universals are safe and up to the job. Anybody know?

    Bit of a mixed bag. I've bought a couple of eBay, one melted with stuff oozing out.

    I have one that I use regularly enough with no issues. Bought it in my local computer repair place for about €45 I think.
