Maxi was replaced by a man, Lillian Smith was replaced by a man and now Audrey Carville has been replaced by a man.

You phrase it as though she was sacked. In fact, she received a promotion in that she'll be presenting programmes with significant listenerships. This debate ha been had before, most recently following an Una Mullaly piece in the IT. But the evidence, IMO, does not support that there is a gender-imbalance at Radio 1...

Morning Ireland - Rachel English, Claire Byrne
News at one - Aine Lawlor
    Drivetime - Mary Wilson
    Saturday 9-10 - Marian Richardson
    Saturday 11-1 - Marian Finucane
    Saturday 1-2 - Claire Byrne
    Sunday 10-11 - Miriam O'Callaghan
    Sunday 11-1 - Marian Finucane

I must say, Radio 1 is actually not *that* bad re: gender balance. Not great when it comes to specialist shows (e.g. Sandy Harsch's Country Time is the only one I can think of that has a woman presenting), but prime-time slots are generally okay. It's definitely not the worst station for gender imbalance anyway.

Radio 1 probably has the most women in prime time of any radio station in the entire country.

I think that gender quotes must surely be to blame for this..

Many of the presenters that are there, male and female, are aging, there seems to be a real problem with a lack of up and coming talent, no matter how hard they try with the youngun's, most people couldn't give a Seoige about them.
