disable person's parking permit

    I want to apply for disable person's parking permit and I went to my GP with the appropriate form but he told me that he can't fill the form because my condition is not listed and I should go to the garda to fill the form. I don't understand why the garda should help me to fill the form also because they will not have a clue about my condition (I have a very rare inborn metabolic disorder). I don't understand which procedure I should follow

    There is a part of the form that has to be signed and stamped by a Garda to verify that your photograph and you are one and the same.Only a Doctor can state what your medical condition is and if it is not on the list he cannot sign it.What is it you do not understand?

    The doctor can't sign the form because my illness is not listed, I guess only the common disorders are on the list and not the rare ones (as usual). I probably am the only one with this disorder in all Ireland so I am not expecting to find my condition listed, I was just wondering if somebody else had a similar situation and could get the permit

    Ask the IWA. They should be able to advise you.....?

    There is not a list of illness set out for the blue badge, but there are a list of requirements one being that you are wholly or almost wholly without the use of a limb or unable to walk more than 50m I think.
    The set list is in the form,you should bring it back to your doctor and if he thinks you meet these requirements then he should fill it out for you.

    You would be surprised by the number of cards that have been given to recipients who do not qualify. All the current cards should be voided and applicants should re-apply to a central dept. with interview etc.

    No idea how many cards have been given to recipients who do not qualify. I have to say that, in my area, the disable parkings near the supermarket are nearly always empty. So I think that there are not many people with the card in my area.

    I think people are quick to jump to the conclusion just lwhen they see someone not in a wheelchair that they are not entitled to a permit.
    Before I was in a wheelchair I still had the badge ,but still had mobility issues , but I had people tap on my window before i even had got out of the car because they would presume on appearance at the time I was ok.

    ...........If you have a mobility issue there should be no reason you do not qualify..............it does not have to be a "condition" on any list. I think you're doctor might not be informed properly you should get a second opinion from someone else i think

    I think you are confusing the Primary Medical Cert with the Parking Permit. There are lots of invisible disorders that would most certainly qualify such a bad heard condition, MS etc. You are correct though that there is no list of conditions for the Parking Permit. My daughter has a condition so rare that she is the only person in Ireland with it. She is certainly not on the list and has a permit.

    My GP was a bit reluctant to fill mine in, despite me meeting the criteria, so I went to my specialist, who filled it in immediately. Why don't you try this?

    I walk with the aid of a splint, so she felt I may not have met the criteria, even though I can only manage thirty metres before becoming a fall risk. She was only going off her own opinion on the form, not looking at physio reports or anything.

    If you are having problems with your mobility I dont see why your doctor wont sign it. Have you attended this doctor all your life

    In the application for disable person's parking permit there is a list of conditions: severe restriction by lung disease, by cardiac condition, arthritic, neurological or orthopedic.
    My condition is not in the list because is a metabolic condition. My muscles can't get enough energy from the food I am eating. It is a rare disease so I understand the reason why is not in the list.

    Your condition would fall under orthopaedic as this also cover conditions with muscles. I would attend another GP if I were you and ask for your full medical file to be transferred.
