Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

co-ax cable anchors/clips for external insulated facade system walls

sorry if this is posted in wrong place but IS related to new satellite tv installation....

its related to the anchors/clips used to secure co-ax cable down the walls from a dish

situation is interesting, like a good few people nowadays the installation will be at a modern "passive" house building with the German/euro method of having external insulation panels + acrylic render facades enveloping the wall structures

that however gives me a problem....you can't just drill the walls and hang things like you can with normal blockwork/plaster walls....problem being you can't use normal nailed clips (its complicated to do correctly - you're not supposed to puncture the facade because it will let water in at the insulation behind the acrylic render)

I've seen specific fixer kits ut there for example if you were trying to hang something like light fittings and whatever from these type of walls, they look a bit like corkscrew affairs and come with stuff you have to inject to the hole to keep watertight (guessing that's silicone sealant or similar) but nothing in the line of clips for routing likes of coax....

anyone seen a product to cover this situation out there?
I can't seriously let the cable flap in the wind :)

    M

Get small Yellow fixing plugs that u use for screws and simply use a small screw driver to punch a tiny hole....u then clip the nail straight into the plug...

    thanks for replying!

for ref. this is the sort of stuff I've ended up discovering with some research:

for the cables you'd need something like this:
    http://www.satpro.tv/Single-Flex-Coax-Cable-Clips.aspx

used in conjunction with something like this:
    http://www.ejot.co.uk/Special-ETICS-solutions/Spiral-anchor-(Spiraldubel)/p/Spiral-anchor

and making sure to have a small drop of clear silicone sealant where the collar of the "dowel" meets the external render

    Also found these items:

    http://www.fischer.de/en/Home/Product-Range/Product-Selector.aspx/cpage-details/pcategory-1001013351/usetemplate-productdetails/

e.g. for heavier items like a dish assembly

also sometimes there's an extra challenge if the walls behind the insulation facade were constructed out of the high efficiency clay type blocks (e.g. Poroton) as they often tend to be...these blocks aren't great for hanging things from full stop so you have to employ what are sometimes known as "chemical fixers"...they're fancy perforated dowels used with a fast-setting cement gun, see here for a demo:

I'm ordering some up now to give them a shot

Use the above with cable ties

that might work alright but its outdoors...and there will be a slight stipple on the render
    BUT
maybe they could be used set into a blob of strong weatherproof epoxy adhesive, might work good idea

There are cable tie mounts available that use a hole bored in the wall: some with their own integral plug that just push in, others need a rawlplug & screw.

How long are the exterior cable runs you're thinking of here? I presume there are some internal cables for TV distribution & the dish will be mounted at a location where the cable(s) can be quickly routed inside, rather than long runs on the outside of walls?

Don't forget, in a typical system, each satellite tuner needs its own cable from the dish, so a twin tuner PVR needs 2 cables & that's only for 1 TV point. Exceptions would be Unicable/SCR systems, where a single co-axial cable from the dish can be split between a no. of tuners, provided you use compatible receivers (might limit your choice somewhat) or, fibre systems, with a single optical fibre being much more discrete than 4 coaxial cables. Of course, there would be added expense & possible installer unfamiliarity involved with the latter systems.
