    Hi guys
TThinking of replacing the standard radio in my 2014 diesel civic to a touch screen unit with sat nav. Trouble is the expense. Probably taking 100 euro for new dash fascia then I need adapters and cables to ensure the handsfree steering controls work. Then a decent unit from kenwood pioneer or alpine run close to 1000 euro when fitted. Craziness?

Ya, is there nothing oem that would fit in properly? To me anyway, retrofitting a brand new car with a cheap radio wouldn't look great. OEM or nothing would be my advice.

The OEM unit in the civic is most likely a rebranded aftermarket pice of kit as it's just a normal double din touchscreen. It might be looking into who makes it or checking with a dealer/on eBay as it should theoretically be possible to fit it in any model.

I wouldn't be worried about buying a secondhand one from a reputable seller with warranty on eBay either.

Thanks I'm looking at a pioneer unit on Amazon Germany. It's coming in a good bit cheaper than the UK site. Any downside to importing from Germany?

The pioneer head units can have messy looking interfaces. Might not bother you, annoyed the crap out of me with one though.

Which of pioneer, kenwood alpine would you recommend?

Not too up on them, but the kenwood interface seems more polished. It would ruin the look of the interior having graphics a kid could do.

Surely at that money there's a Honda one available.

The honda unit is quite dated according to the reviews

i have to admit that i haven't used a car radio in years. i fitted a carpc instead which can hold hundreds of albums, sat nav, phone radio diagnostics etc etc and uses a simple front end.
You can get a double din carpc with built in amp etc, but it's not for everyone as some pc knowledge isnt essential, but useful.
    Heres an example.

But i prefer using a front end software like centrafuse instead of just windows interface such as below.

It can cost about the same as a good cd/radio. but a carpc is a lot more versatile.
Mine holds every album i own, plus all of family guy, american dad etc for when i'm bored waiting for someone. plus i keep my 360 joypad in the glovebox and also have pretty much every arcade game on it.

The main issue is that it's hard to get single din touchscreens for cars. double din is easy to get.
In my case the carpc is in the boot beside the 4 way amp with a usb and hdmi cable running to the touchscreen on the dash. but the all in one double din i posted above is convenient for those who dont want to do much rewiring etc.

Price wise. you could do one yourself from about 500 up. but the all in one is about 1000 dollars .
