yeah it was a great machine at the time, it was my first gaming experience, i had amiga600, my favourite games were all TEAM17 coded games like Alien Breed, Superfrog and Psygnosis stuff like Leander. Turrican2, flashback, Operation Wolf, Myth were also IMO amiga classics.

Ah Team 17 had some of the coolest games on the amiga....Worms is still a classic as was Cannon Fodder...Sensible Soccer is still my favourite football game...

Its a pity that it still isn't around....piracy really killed it off...

I had almost 400 games and I think I only bought 7 of them....

Guilt setting in now I tell you....

Piracy didnt kill it, PC's did - once manufacturers realised that anything more than 16 colours and beep-sound wasn't just a toy they were able to push the amiga out of the market. Peripherals were just way too expensive in comparison to the PC's of the day.

Still a fantastic machine, as was the c64 before it. It was the first real consumer home-music computer (Composing on the 64 was damn hard to get into, and the ST relied on Midi compatibility and not internal sound capabilities).

My fave games were - ArmourGeddon, Dune2, Speedball 2, Carrier Command and Turrican 1/2.

yeah i still have an amogq huddled ayway in a press somewhere.

There were some great games put there fot it, like agony with great music and shaddow of the beast 1/2/3.

It had a great demo comunity where guys would show off the grephic and sound of the machine. I must dig mine out some day!

I have speed ball 2 for the pc now, and on the box it says it requires a P1 133mhz to run it! But the 7.14 mez amiga had no probs with it.

You'll need an amiga emulator. Best one available is WinUAE. you can get it here:

    http://www.codepoet.com/UAE/

Although, you'll also need to find the Amiga Boot Rom in order for it to run. Good luck finding that as it's still under copyright.

    Try the emulators board.
It's what it's there for after all :)
All you're questions will be answered.

ahhhhhh, the memories... must have spent a week solid playing scorched earth on a friends machine, plus speedball 2 & playing streetfighter 2 with one joypad button... good times

I can honestly say, that without the Amiga my life would be radically different. Playing with it gave me enough experience with computers to get a decent job and a career. I still have mine, and I'm never getting rid of it.

    /me sheds tear

    What is the amiga one?

got any links to info and the like?

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,815 ✭✭✭✭po0k

It's a multiplatform OS afaik, not so much an actual piece of hardware.
There is a board you can get which allows users of A1200s or A4000/3000s to upgrade to PPC level cpus or something.

Google for a while to find out more, but check dates if available on any info you find as the details were sketchy last time I checked.

    Ahh yes...those were the days
I was still playin mine right up until my friend Borked it by Destroying the Display Card/Adaptor/Big bulky yoke on my 500+
Captain planet and Bart Vs the Space Mutants 0wn3d!

Cannon Fodder was ****ing class as was lemmings.
also shadow of the beast,Road Rash,New Zealand Story, Rainbow brothers (afaik thats right) and all them...
    Ahh..
Maybe I should re-order the parts from peats and get the auld gurl up and running again....that is if I can find where I left it.

Is there anywhere you can buy amiga's (or obtain the amiga boot roms legally) so that you can play those old titles?

I didn't have an amiga myself, but I have a cousin who did, and there were many class games there. There was one dominoes puzzle game I used to spend hours playing. Oh, the memories

Its a weird thing...just at my uncle's house...

Still uses his Amiga 1200 to do all his documentation....even manages to go on the internet with it!!!!

'Fraid it looks like Babble's caculation engine though:)

Just looking through some of my games...found Kick Off Priemership Manager and Dizzy...

And the amount of demos I had beggers belief..even have one or two games that never mad it to fruition...

Ah the joys of a misspent childhood

While I'm at it does anyone remeber Dungeon Master?
