I've worked in academia for the past ten years [lecturing and researching in the social sciences]. I'm eager to move on at this point but need some steers in terms of what options are open to me. Does anyone know of any good sources of advice, information or guidance for someone looking to leave academia? Or can anyone recommend any particular career counsellors or coaches who might be useful in this context?

Management consultancy with a firm like McKinsey? Apparently McKinsey like to hire people with PhDs in things like philosophy for their problem-solving/thinking outside the box background. I found the Careers guy in UCD quite good when I decided to leave (his specialisation was in advising people who had completed doctorates and been in academia for a while). Other than McKinsey, try other management consultancy (strategic) roles.
