Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Headline: 'Elderly couple armed with guns stop burglar..."

Turns out they are 66 and 70. That is not elderly. Elderly is...well...10 years older than I am, at least.

    Hmph.

I wonder how the general consensus of "elderly" has changed over the generations with increasing lifespan?

I mean, if 65 was rare in 1840, then that'd be "elderly", but if you have lots of people aged 65 in 1940, they're all going to have something to say (loudly and vociferously :P) about 65 being considered "elderly".

Maybe if it becomes common for lifespan to stretch to 110, 90 won't be considered "elderly" anymore, due to a lot of sprightly great-grandmothers informing cheeky 70-year old sproglets that they can still beat them up if they persist with all this ageist business!

I race (bicycle) regularly against a dozen or more guys in their 70s, one of whom still beats me and pretty much everyone else every week. A couple of them are in their 80s. Don't think any of those guys would consider themselves "elderly"

    (and I'm not accepting I'm "middle-aged" despite being nearer 60 than 50:pac:)

You are elderly when your age is greater than or equal to the age of 77% of the people that you know. FACT

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

That's just means it's a young staff. You can't be elderly if you're young enough to be working.

I had one of my public representatives on the doorstep today looking for my vote. Young, passionate, full of beans. As soon as she saw me she started talking about older people, elder care, nursing homes, home care, free travel, etc., etc. Somewhere between my post on the 29th December 2015…………….
