Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    On here too - was showing up under RTÉ NL but a rescan now has it on 3e.

    HD Test channel back on too.

    It's only a trial service at the moment and subject to change. This from the recent Dept of Comms Saorview content consultation.

    The sample mux information from RTÉ indicates the HD Mux will use approx 6.00 Mbps, at the moment it's using almost 7.5 Mbps (wow factor during the trial at a guess) and the others will use approx 2.00 Mbps.

    3e was also included.

    Yes, I have TV3e, but all the RTE Digital Radio apart from RTE Pulse are gone. Only 13 Channels. However this is a nearly 9 year old laptop. I'll recheck on "proper computer" later!

    VBR is very variable "Good" HD can vary from 0.5Mbps to 10Mbps even if average is 6Mbps. A good Stat mux helps :)

    Rescanned. All 17 services there still. Surprised to see 3e so early. How many would desert the pay TV platforms now if you told them ALL the Irish channels were now on DTT, plus a Freesat box would look after your UK channels need.

    EDIT: noticed its not autoswitching to the correct aspect ratio. FYI, normally 4:3, is stretched widescreen. Seems to be the opposite of 3e on Sky, where everything goes to 4:3 regardless of content.

    Yep. all there on DVBprog, it's only the free version on laptop, so only shows EPG.

    Saorview is received via an Aerial from the various transmitters around the country and has nothing to do with Satellite or Sky.

    To receive Saorview you will need a saorview receiver and a UHF aerial.

    Sky is satellite. DTT is terrestrial.

    Absolutely delighted with this,It will encourage me and more to watch three [I've not much idea whats on 3e though yet].

    Sky's worst nightmares are thankfully being realised with combo boxes and hopefully combo tv's and for many in UK freeview overspill areas that option too, meaning people have a real alternative,a real free alternative with all the important channels without Sky.

    Whats lacking coming up to Christmas is a marketing drive now.
    Get to it Saorview people.
    Get to it retailers.

    I think you're missing Black Briar's point. For the first time, we now have all of Ireland's tv channels freely available on a crystal clear, widescreen etc digital system. We don't have to pay Sky or indeed UPC for a digital version of our own channels anymore and don't forget, however good or bad 3e is, it was a pay tv channel up until 4pm today. As someone else said, it's a small start, but it's a lot better than what we had four weeks ago. Lets all get behind Saorview and give them a chance I say.

    Not that I ever suggested that the BAI go out an seek Licence applications for new Irish channels on Saorview. Of course I was suggesting Channel 6 be on DTT way back in 2006. Lets have a new TV company :). After all Pay DTT won't happen until 2013 at the earliest IMO. I amn't knocking Soarview at all, you seem to think I am. I am being critical of the process which has got us to this stage.

    I just tried the Dual DTT stick on a Compaq-HP "mini" 11" (1366 x768) Atom Netbook that has Nvidia Ion. The "Total Media 3.5" app has all the codecs etc..

    "Why are RTE NL putting TV3e in a box on the HD Test loop"? "Oh, it's Picture in Picture"

    I didn't think that would work :) All 17 channels fine
    No idea why since TV3e has started that the old Laptop has lost most of the "digital radio" channels.

    TV3 and 3e are showing as 16:9 for me. Any 4:3 content is with black bars as my TV auto switches to add black bars if 4:3 content is showing. The Apprentice on 3e earlier was in full screen 16:9, so it appears they have sorted out their switching, or does it show everything with a 16:9 signal, meaning 4:3 content is streched?

    TV3's in house shows seem to be still in 4:3 but FYI was stretched on 3e.

    Now you can get all the Irish channels* for free it's actually worth your while looking into getting a cheaper UK Sky sub (assuming you still want to stay with them!)

    Earlier was showing FYI (normally 4:3) in 16:9 format.

    Interesting, you see 3e was covered under the change to the license terms for it from Channel 6 days to TV3's license, meaning 3e would be probably automatically ready for Saorview.

    I'm not sure but probably Setanta doesn't have a terrestrial license so may have to get one first from BAI? I don't know. Yea Commmunity TV and City Channels would be good additions. But again would probably require terrestrial licenses.

    Once RTÉ add its extra channels there is no further capacity available on the first multiplex. Would be option for the second mux but cannot see them going FTA (the 2 PSB muxes are FTA only).

    Considering that they are ONLY a Pay TV channel, and struggling, why would they want to?

    In relation to all licence I assume that they all come under the new act. AFAIK???? which allows them go on what every platform they want if they have agreements.

    Which would mean that it is a case of asking to appear on Saorview or PayDTT or whatever else is their on terrestrial.

    So I assume Setanta Ireland could appear there. I would suggest they go on Saorview to avail of rights which they would not be able to show on Pay platforms and also an increased audience share. They need to look at their schedule in terms of non-live sporting events. SI isn't that good to be a Pay service IMO. Setanta Ireland would forgo the money it gets from UPC and Magnet as a basic channel but at what lose they would still remain on both networks.

    As for City Channel well its partly owned by UPC so its unlikely to appear.

    Well that is a nice surprise addition to the lineup. 6 TV channels in digital for free.

    3e comes in for a lot of abuse on these boards, but it does have some shows I like... American Dad, Family Guy, Conan, CSI, NCIS, Chuck and so on and so forth. Now they might not be everyones choice of show and they might be available elsewhere, but I enjoy them and I am sure someone else does too!

    3e is a bit of a pointless channel in multichannel land, but for anyone with only DTT it's a decent option. I don't think it has any shows that aren't available on other channels on UPC or Sky but for anyone who doesn't have them or runs a second TV with only DTT it's a great option to have.

    Hopefully TV3 might look at stopping using it as a TV3+ 1 day channel for their bigger shows though which is incredibly tiresome and if it gets any worse will lessen the usefullness of the channel.

    I think TV3 may be surprised in a couple of years as FTA TV base builds up how much % watch 3e on FTA compared with PayTV and as a result spend more on programming.

    At least now if I see something advertised on 3e I'd like to watch or if there is a football match being shown on 3e I can watch it instead of moaning about it's lack of availability on DTT.

    Fantastic news about 3e!


    Today I contacted Sky, told them I was now living in the UK, gave them a postcode and address for the UK, Im now receiving all the UK channels with HD for free on sat with all the Irish channels on DTT!

    Yipee!

    I have an aerial on my roof that looks like this:

    Bought in maplin for around 60euros.

    It has one coaxial cable coming from it and going straight into the aerial connection on my LCD TV.

    With this I get perfect quality RTE 1, 2, and TV3.

    How can I get 3e and the other channels people discuss here, News 24 etc?

    You need a Digital TV compatible with "Freeview HD" or "Saorview" or a similar set-box

    Yes Declan.

    The Edision will allow you combine satellite and DTT one channel list by connecting a dish and aerial to the back of it. There is a sticky called combo boxes that do the same.

    Or if you just want DTT you can get an MPEG4 H264 dvb-t box if your TV doesnt have an MPEG4 H264 processor and Digital Tuner built in..
