Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Taxing a used car

This has probably been asked many times before but here we go at any rate...

Bought a second-hand car at the weekend from a dealer. The tax on it had run out at 12-08. Not sure how to go about getting a new tax cert for it. I tried through paying the tax through motortax.ie, but not having much luck.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

    Cheers

if you have the VLC, the insurance cert and the money then go to your local tax office, they will do it for you there and then.

You will not be able to use motortax.ie in this instance as you don't have the tax renewal reminder PIN. ( But you will going forward as you are the new registered owner so future notices of renewal will go to your address ( assuming that this is the detail which you gave to the dealer ).

Just go to your local tax office and complete the tax renewal form there. You don't need any other documentation. You will be liable for tax from the 1st day of the month during which the car was purchased, in this case, Jan 1st 2009;)
