Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I think you can make the mix the night before, but don't add the raising agents (powder and soda) until you are about to add to the heat. Otherwise they might lose some of their raising potential.

I'm planning on making these for pancake Tuesday but couldn't find any bicarbonate soda in the shop today , is there anything I can use in its place?

It's just plain bread soda. If you are near an Aldi they have small tubs of bicarbonate of soda with their baking stuff.

Ah sure I have bread soda, didn't realise it was the same thing. Thanks

I make these and then store them and use them for breakfast over a few days. I store in a tupperware box in the fridge and pop in the toaster before I serve.

I've made these the last 2 weekend and have prity much followed the recipes to a T. Didn't have butter, but used a spread that suggested it was good for cooking. Thats the only real diff.

    Love them :-)

But on both occasions I've had leftover batter(better off looking at it than for it....), which I've store in the fridge in an airtight container,
but when I go to it it's laced with black dots. They seem to go a third of the way down into the batter.
This happened in under 11 hrs as I copped it last night on a beer run....

    Any ideas why this happens?

Hadn't heard of this to be honest but did a quick search and found this:

"Pancake batter will keep for 3 days, refrigerated. Little black dots may form on the batter’s surface on days 2 and 3 — they’re a harmless result of oxygenation."

    Cheers,

Won't happen again I'm just going to use all the batter ;-)

Noticed this morning that both the baking powder and Bicarb are past their BB, only by a year but it could be something

Made these for the zillionth time today, with strawberries as well as the bacon and maple syrup (and halloumi instead of bacon for the veggie in my life). I'll be making them again on Pancake Tuesday :) Delicious!

How many pancakes do you get out of the OP's recipe? Gonna make these for myself but I don't want to make too much and have stuff go to waste.

Maybe about 10 nice size pancakes, if you don't use them they freeze ok and reheat in nicely.

I made the mixture per OP and I got 4 pancakes with enough left for maybe two more. This was my first time making this type of pancake and I ended up making them a bit too thick. They were yum though with maple syrup and blueberries.

Made these tonight but they came out a bit flat. Not sure what went wrong as I made them the same as the OP. They were still tasty tho!

My first batch was fine though I accidently put in two measures of bicarb instead of sodium bicarb and baking powder because I misread my containers.

Second batch I used baking power AND the bicarb but I think I messed up the flour measure because the mixture was too liquidy and not thick enough.

I don't have any maple syrup, what else goes well with American pancakes?

You could try honey or chocolate spread.

    The apple one sounds interesting

    They were lovely, thanks OP.

Made them again today for the day that's in it. Double recipe made 22 pancakes. There was only one left - teenage sons ;-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,075 ✭✭✭OU812

Made them tonight. Crisped up the bacon beforehand & then crumbled it directly in on the pan, added blueberries, served with butter & maple syrup. Dinner was 1,000 calories of yum

Forgot to post about making these. Great recipe. Slight eggy taste the first time I made them so I reduced the amount of egg I used the next time and they were spot. Thanks OP.
